Wider ratio spread = more efficient accelerating operation. Unless your 4th is 1:1 and you have 2 ODs, in which case it's the same as a 5 speed just with another 50mph+ gear. Like the Shitmec TRshittyshitty mentioned above.
>>28530918 Isnt 5 the entire reason for a reverse lockout? My 6 speed reverse is to the left and up, no need for a lockout because you'd never put in reverse by mistake.
Allows for shorter, more fun ratios in low gears while having an economical tall 6th gear for highways. Can give you better options for certain situations since you have more ratios to choose from.

>>28531840 It has an automatic lockout, you just dont know about it. Once you hit 3rd gear the shifter has to be moved to the left of 3rd to unlock R and not engage 3-5 in order to get into reverse.

More gears means you can have more close ratio gears down low for fun, frequent shifting when you're doing spirited driving while still having reasonable overdrive gears for cruising

>>28531832 Same 6 speed pattern here, but I have a reverse lockout. Otherwise you'd be going too far left when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd.
>>28531824 i thought you were referring to something like a hypercar, i have no frame of reference when it comes to manual shifting trucking ergonomics.
>>28530908 Your car isn't fast or has the power to be fast.

>>28531791 On a tangential note, I think we need to normalize sequential shifters with the emergency brake right next to it in a production car. It's both ergonomic and cool as fuck. How come noone's tried this.
