I hate horsepower creep.
Nowadays 4 figures are the new normal, and realistically nobody ever needs more than ~300 on public roads.
Every new le bleeding edge supercar is a 1200 hp hybrid nightmare.
Will this shit ever stop?

No because those cars are not targeted at normal people like you and I. They are stupid scam-mobiles targeting the ultra-wealthy. The gap between rich and poor is ever-increasing, so asspirational objects get further and further from normal people's needs and wants.

You ought to be out there committing mass Minecraft because your suffering will only get worse.

Maserati's supercar, still rare enough to be considered new since nobody is buying them, only has 600hp. But it has lambo doors and a decent looking interior, classic clean lines instead of visual overload

1000hp is the norm?

Maybe in Monaco or Dubai.

and how often do you see these 1200hp cars on the road? hint: literally never. they're investment vehicles that get bought and trailered to a carpeted garage where they spend their entire life. 400hp still puts you in the top 1% on the street.

They say the average passenger vehicle horsepower in the US is something like 270, 280. But that includes fullcab trucks and suvs
A weight/power equivalent 3600lb sedan matches a 425hp, 5200lb truck with 300 horse. For a 350hp truck, a 3300lb car matches at 225hp.

But we all gotta watch out cus all the new dodges are being equipped with the tt i6 so in a few short years every cuntfuck with a 550 credit score who can make a $500 payment on a used vehicle is going to have a 5.5 second truck.

I kind of followed the evolution of "hypercars", it started with bugatti "$1 million hypercar", then came the maybach exelero "$8 million unique concept car", and after that they never stopped, you now have an old classic mercedes at $100 millions
even the very rich are getting robbed, they're targetting people with thousands of millions, aka billions in the US

The rich have some in their ranks who have tired of it too, as can be seen from the growth of 'official' restomods from the likes of Alfaholics and Singer. The GMA are cagey about power figures too.

People buy 500 hp cars that cost more than a house so they can get tickets for driving 34 in a 30 or be stuck in a line behind a boomer driving 20 under the speedlimit.

Realistically no one needs more than 180hp or so. I've got 170 and accelerate faster than everyone anyway, it's not like these rich folk are using the power except maybe doing a run to 5k rpm once a year or so.
When I got my license in the '00s 300hp was shockingly fast.
Make cars light again.

While I agree cars should be as light as possible we don't live in the same world we did 10/20/30 years ago. Modern suspension and tires can overcome the weight limits of old. Unless you're on a very tight track weight doesn't matter as much as it used to.

My first car was an 88 Supra Turbo I got in 2002. I thought it was the fastest car I'd ever drive but in retrospect that thing was a dog. Same with my VA WRXs. However in my mind anything with a sub 7 0-60 is still fast enough because that was the standard back then.

>not like these rich folk are using the power except maybe doing a run to 5k rpm once a year or so

If you aren't full throttle 5,000 rpm by itself doesn't mean anything. 5k rpm in my car in first gear is going ~40mph. It's not like you're making full power at all times, its based on throttle input at a given point in the rev range.

>Unless you're on a very tight track weight doesn't matter as much as it used to.
It matters a lot to me on the street. I used to go to track days a few times a year but the street is more important. I hate fighting against all that weight when I want to take a corner hard, I shouldn't have to spend brainpower thinking about it.
>it's not like you're making full power at all times, its based on throttle input at a given point in the rev range.
I'm aware, it's a 3D curve of throttle and RPM. I just wanted to make my post less wordy and figured that "occasional rev to 5k" got the point across. I live in a rich neighborhood and everyone in their 500hp fancy shit drives exactly the same as they would in an '97 Accord. Then they'll tell you that redlining ruins engines while they do 10-15k mile oil changes. It's weird to me.

fwiw I like Miatas. I've almost bought one 4 or 5 times but they've just never managed to win me over. If I had another space in my garage and some more twisties where I lived I'd definitely have one.

I do like making my truck do things it probably shouldn't around corners, we just have different ideas of fun.

If it's ICE then 500hp is fine. If it's an EV then 1000hp is the bare minimum.

100mph sustained, the engine isn't even loading the radiator beyond thermostat set temp. You can do side street pull offs into main street traffic you never would have before. Safely pass people with oncoming traffic at half the distance, unsafely pass at a third. Powering out of turns actually requires some skill.

At the end of the day you're still at the mercy of red light randomness and traffic being traffic.
