I need a dead reliable vehicle that won't break the bank. I was thinking of pic related.
What am I in for?

If you can afford maintaining a V8 gas guzzling classic, you can afford lease payments.

Just you and everyone else who's ever posted a "wat car is gewd" thread. Why do people think this is some unique requirement?
Crown vics are getting old, and mostly reliable and there are lots of cheap parts if you know how to wrench. But any used car is a gamble, the older it is the worse the odds you'll get a well maintained one.
Where I live the crack dealers drive these.

Depends where you live. I don't know about you but here these haven't been used as fleet vehicles in well over a decade. I don't see many panthers still kicking around. Check your local parts availability or you might be forced to buy everything online. Also be careful who you're buying these from. These are either owned by an old as fuck couple getting ready to kick the bucket or the degenerates of society. Don't buy one from the latter. I'd personally go the GMT800 route just for the sheer numbers of them and the parts availability plus the reliability which exceeds the Panthers imo.

San Diego PD apparently still has some in active service. I saw one just a few weeks ago and I almost couldn't believe it. A uniformed officer was driving it and it had a shotgun in the vertical holder, so I'm assuming it wasn't a fluke sighting of a reserve vehicle. They have been using Explorers for a long time now.

There are a few still in service around the country because officers liked them. I still see one now and then. For the cynics, yes they're real cops, not hired security.

It's not as cheap as you think it is.

Had one back when they were sorta new, got a 2000 in 08 with 109k miles, very clean. A/C went out first, then fuel pump, electrical issue with fuse box, O2 sensors, ditched it at 134k miles when rear main seal went out and poured down the driveway. It's slow, heavy and over-rated.

if you do get a car like this go for the grand marquis,is nicer, more unique and cooler, usually cheaper and hasn't been beaten by fleet use and 4 crackhead owners afterwards

if it's anywhere in the US of A the parts practically grow out of trees what are you on about.
If you live in any country outside of north america forget about these unless you want a quirky showpiece and nothing else

Veteran sergeants/captains keep their vics. Its a perk of seniority. Once they retire, so are their cars.
