I have had something similar to pic related as my first car for a year or so, drove around 10k km in that time and I like it a lot.
I don't know shit about cars but my brother who is a mechanic told me that as long as it is regularly maintained it will last a lifetime and parts are cheap and easy to find since there are tons of these things in every turn.
He drives a similar one and it has like half a million kilometers on it so I'm inclined to beleive him.
My question is this: is it worth spending money on repairing the visual wear and tear, repainting some stuff and so on? I got it to simply go from point A to B but I like it and I'm probably going to keep it for 6+ years since I am a poorfag. I bought it used for 3k euros and it was in immaculate mechanical condition but has some scratches outside on various parts.

Maybe, depend on specifics and your finances. Many visual issues can be fixed for cheap with a little know-how.

Only you can answer that question.
If you're asking from the point of view of pure economics making it look nice - it's not worth it.

But I do feel something warm and fuzzy inside when i see a 90s/early 2000s econobox in mind condition with fresh looking paint and shined black tyres on the smallest OE rim for this model.
I'd do it.

Rust is a silent killer so focus on that.

I've owned a used 206 1.6 5spd manual for over 10 years. They are overall very reliable vehicles with some small issues to take a look for. They often have trouble with power steering failing, mostly due to faulty electrical plugs and wireing. Suspension bushings, especially the main rear torsion beam bushings are notoriously fragile on those. Watch out for the if you have clunking noises on the rear. Also check oil levels regularly often. If the car is smoking too much, i.e. burning oil, the main culprit are valve retainers; if it is dripping, its often a valve cover gasket that has failed or the rear main bearing seal (needing both a bearing and seal replacement, never reuse any of the old parts).

Other than those, which may or may not happen (apart from the torsion beam bushings), itll last a long time with just regular maintenance. They are very reliable cars if cared properly.

As for the paint, I wouldnt bother too much if they are small scratches with no bare metal showing.
