Just get an r4. Arrows are overrated af and it's cheaper + has much more range than the r7.
If you wanna flex then the r8 is basically the r4 with arrows but significantly more expensive than both

On another note, why does my R3 make noise when It picks up KA band, but then goes quiet.
It's always different as well.

Been running a Uniden DFR7 for nearly a decade and no issues. Still gets database updates for the red light cameras. Same distance detection as those asspainsive models, just monocolor screen and no arrows

Twas like $120
Highly recommend if you just want a cheap functional no-frills/no ricey colors/arrows option

I dont know the different models that well, go watch that radar detector dude on YT and you'll learn a lot about what's important to you.
I got an R8 about 2 yrs ago and super happy with it, the arrows are a huge help to understand what's going on around you.
If anything I'd say the R8 Ka band performance is so amazingly good it's almost too good... you'll get warnings well over a mile away in average conditions. It's unbelievable.
The ability to gps tag and auto-mute/mark false signals on your normal route is great.
No ragrets on the purchase.

I have a r4 and my experience mirrors >>28534720 except I can't really talk about arrows, but if the signal gets higher then you should probably start slowing down

OP here. I just went to sams and got the r4. its picking up on shit so far but Idk where its coming from. Sometimes it picked up on speed limit detectors but those dont enforce shit. It kept reading K bands the whole way home.

There are forums available that tell you what bands to disable in your area. K bands are a bitch specifically because automatic doors and adaptive cruise control systems use certain K band frequencies, but the R4 lets you turn those off in the settings.
Also, depending on the places you drive, you can turn off K bands entirely because some PDs have entirely transitioned to Ka and laser detection

Uniden R3 should be enough, I have a shitty DFR1 and it has considerable range, false alerts like a mofo but from a decent range.

This is one of the useful features of knowing the signal direction. Eventually you see a K band and then start looking for Hondas and Mazda’s in that direction but at first it’s a little disconcerting
