It's high time for Mr Architect to get some shades and a gold chain and buy an Alfa Romeo. They used to build aircraft engines and the Saab 9000 was pretty much a 146, anyway.

Other way around. Fiat, Lancia, and Saab designed the platform and then Alfa, having just had their funding cut by the Italian government, asked if they could be involved. The 164 was the last of the four cars to leave the design stage and the last of the four to hit dealer lots.
