HPD ARX-04. CFD-designed POS that entered the 2015 Daytona 24 Hours and failed to finish. Powered by the J-series-based HR28TT V6, the car was so underdeveloped that Extreme Speed Motorsports went back to their ARX-03 after its singular race. HPD eventually took back the car and redeveloped it, but nobody bought it thanks to the new gay LMP2 rules for 2017. The ARX-04 was also slated to run Pikes Peak that year but it failed to take the start for that race too

Underdeveloped prototype? How about not properly developing a whole new platform and engine, pulling out of every race in the calendar to focus on Le Mans, then having your two entries complete just 4 laps and 2 laps (plus 4 hours in the pits) respectively.
Lesson not to use a too-small budget to develop a ground -up design. Poor aero, unreliable underpowered engine, and when the engine worked, it broke the gearbox IIRC

Dome S102, a Hero of the 2008 Le Mans where the shrieking V10 cut through all the garbage diesels of the time. Qualified well in 8th but had issues in the race that made it one of the last finishers. It was a favourite here on the /o/ LM threads (yes we used to talk about cars here) being a loud V10 powered weeb-appealing Gundam styled LMP1.
The Lola T92/10 was powered by a Judd V10 and built for the 1992 season. Two were sold to a private team and suffered from consistent gearbox issues. The one that managed to finish Le Mans that year did so 80 laps behind the leader, and the car became defunct after Group C collapsed at the end of the year and the team went bankrupt.
Looks fuckin sick tho.

One of the chassis went on to live another life in LMP900 as the Ascari A410 after being bought by Klaad Zwart. To little surprise, it often retired with gearbox failure, however managed some success including a win. Following that, it was swapped with a BMW V8 due to Ascari's deal for engines in their road car and it became much less successful until it was retired for good as Ascari focused on its road car and GT racing efforts.

The Jag used a Cosworth V8 for the 3.5 regs, though a V12 was used by BRM with their P351. Derived from Weslake's 1960's F1 engine it could still produce over 600hp at 13krpm, and was fast in a straight line but was long and heavy. Given that, and not enough budget to develop the car, it only ran three race, retiring each time due to electrical and transmission issues before the team went bankrupt.

Following a few RX-7 entries, Mazda stepped up in 1983 with a new prototype for the C2 class, the 717C. It used a fairly mild 13B but managed to win its class at Le Mans although was the only C2 finisher. It's also very cute.

People that complain about it have never actually worked a job where they would have to compose documents for record or have even written college papers. You see double-spaced paragraphs all over the legal, government, and business letters and documents. They just call it "reddit spacing" because that's probably the only place they had experience with it.
The only people I've seen complain about it are coders who can't just copy/paste shit without it being formatted a certain way. Everybody else is just being an autist for no legitimate reason.

That thing was really weird
Bespoke 2 litre inline 6 with a turbo. I get that they were trying to design a smaller engine out of the V12, but there are a couple of good packaging and weight distribution reasons why nobody else attempted to create a protoype around an inline 6. I just can't see how this would have turned into a competetive racecar, even with a working driveline and developed chassis
Nice sound though

The engine rules were 3400cc 8 cyl max or turbocharged 2000cc 6 cyl max and on paper it was the only thing that would make more power than the existing petrol engines to give you any chance against diesels. While every other 2L turbo was an I4 it makes sense, the extra engine length doesn't matter except for slightly moving the unballasted weight rearward because you're just going to have a long ass bellhousing to get the wheelbase you want anyways. (and indeed the AMR-One still has a long ass bellhousing) It's no more of a problem than running a V12 instead of a V8 in that sense, and it's not an insanely small displacement per cylinder either considering say the 333SP was a 4L V12.
