Exactly. Old SOHC iron block BMWs will run forever on basically thoughts and prayers while still sounding sublime.
Despite my love for the M30, there is no better sounding straight six than the old belt driven M20. It's smooth as butter, the warm tones of the sixer at idle are like a lullaby, it's just beautiful.
Even when you rev it, it doesn't have that rasp of the DOHC sixers, it's just a gentle moan of sorts.
