I've owned it for a year now.
>everything in the cabin rattles - there's at least 3-4 different plastic panels rattling when I drive the car
>turning the speakers on makes the plastic paneling rattle even more
>every little road bump will cause something else inside the cabin to rattle
>hear the sounds of the gasoline inside the gas tank sloshing when I brake into a full stop
>rocks get stuck in the undercarriage all the time and I have to hear them making noise while driving
>hear the sounds of fluid dripping onto metal coming from the engine bay for 10-15 minutes after turning the car off - I thought this was a leak at first, nope it's normal
>already had to replace the passenger mirror because the plastic holding it together snapped in half

I don't mind all of what you mentioned, if it was still a $30k aud as when it released.

It's meant to be a visceral fun driving experience, so economy interior and rattles is ok, as long as it doesn't legitimately break down

These days it's a $50k car (plus tip). You can cross shop a BMW 1 series, or look at lightly used Supra etc

>>28553689
Agreed. This is why the Hyundai N are selling so much - best sporty car for the buck. Personally I wouldn't want a fwd sporty car, though, unless you're COMITTED to going track or autocross once a month, you can get a modern SUV that isn't thaaaaat much slower (on the road, adhering to speed limit, not going to tail of the dragon etc)

>>28553847
It's funny, because new cars generally are very capable, but feel slow. My rav4 goes down (literally, down, aided by gravity) surprisingly well. Awd hybrid gets it off the line pretty fast. Any 2L hatch with short gearing, a snappy gearbox gets off the line decently, and with good condition suspension actually corners relatively well.

Meanwhile, sports cars (from Hyundai i20n, to golf r, to supra) are getting more expensive, are generally uncomfortably sprung, are tuned so that everything feels linear and slow, but are so fast that you cannot use their full ability safely on a nanny state road.

It's really strange.

The purpose of a sports car is to be able to go fast WITH CONFIDENCE.
If that feels "boring" to you, then don't buy a sports car.
Any retard can go 120 mph in a 2003 nissan versa, and it will "feel faster" because its going to be barely staying on the road.
I dont know what youre expecting, sports cars are designed for SPORT, that is RACETRACK usage.

What we've both said isn't mutually exclusive

What I'm saying is that modern cars are just as capable as sports cars a few decades ago.
Coupled with roads being more restrictive and hazardous

Therefore the value proposition for enjoyable cars is very different to 20 years ago.

In many ways, we return to miata (which unfortunately are not cheap anymore, even the 30 year old ones)

It's my belief that affordable, less powerful, high revving cars with inducible over steer are the most fun street package

Sports cars from a few decades ago also felt slow compared to driving shitboxes from a few decades ago really fast
For example a 2005 corvette would feel more stable at 100mph than a 2005 cobalt would.
>It's my belief that affordable, less powerful, high revving cars with inducible over steer are the most fun street package
You can turn off all the nannies in modern cars as well. If not through the car's interface, certainly by disconnecting some fuses

Not sure what your fascination with stability at speed is - any vehicle with castor in the suspension geometry suits this. Torquey engines also support it. Neither of these necessary make a car "sporty" in fact castor negatively affects turn in.

That's beside the point - if I'm a normal dude in the West and I am middle class and want a weekend/project car to drive on public roads, it is my belief that the less powerful high revving affordable rwd car is the best option.

I can assure you that having a wildly capable, powerful track car is not fun on the road because 1) you can't reach any sort of limit of cornering or acceleration, and 2) if the car is expensive, you are shit scared of binning it, or rock chips, adding too many kms etc

Are all 2nd gens like that or do you think you got a lemon? Because that's almost exactly what I remember from the 1st gen including how fucking slow it was. My TC at the time wasn't exactly higher quality but at a sub 20k price point it was acceptable. If its still that way when they're over 30k that would be very disappointing. I'm curious about 2nd gens because the 1st gen disappointed me so greatly. I don't think a lack of refinement is a con like you say, that's sort of expected from a cheap "sports" car. The roads where you live also matter a lot.

Its funny to think how a base 1LS Camaro was at most 28k until that trim was cut in 2024 making it cheaper than the BRZ not just of the same year but of almost all years the 1LS trim existed, while also having a turbo capable of nearly 400hp with e85 and a few bolt-ons. Even if you wanted to stick to NA and get the 1LT V6 it was at most 32k starting. Barely 1k more than a base BRZ for MY 2024.

ford is milking boomer nostalgia for the mustang's survival at this point. Zoomers don't give a shit about muh 1960s Amerkan musshole heritage and can't afford $50-60K for a basic GT anyway.

the brz equivalent is the ts which comes in at $38K MSRP, and the ts only has upgraded front dampers unlike the 86 performance pack which upgrades the rear as well. the ts is also much harder to find. 86 are generally more available AND will hold their value better. 86 also looks better imo

I'm seriously considering a GR86 AUTOTRAGIFAIL ONLY (fuck Manuel) Performance Package.

I keep buying American sportscars but every single one has many quality defects. They're such pieces of shit I can no longer gaslight myself. Sure they're better bang for the buck but all the little niggles bother the hell out of me.

I just want a robust package I can ABUSE HEAVILY whenever I want, like donuts, burnouts, whenever I feel bored in traffic. I thought American musshole was the answer, but they're all defective from the factory with janky ass trannies and random defective axles and other bullshit.

I just want a package that works without ever having to worry about it. Is there even such a thing or do I have to custom build some try-hard "dorifto car" just to be able to enjoy N activities on-demand?

you're not doing any of that in an automatic that makes barely 200whp retard
if you don't have a gorillion hp you absolutely need a clutch for easy standing burnouts and impromptu donuts.
automatic cars usually have open differentials, and if you have an open diff you can slide the ass around like it's fwd but it's not drifting and you will never be able to do "burnouts" or "donuts" at all

if you want an auto that will let you be retarded you want something with a ZF8 like a Charger or Challenger, swap the diff with the Hellcat LSD then enable the factory line lock or buy a tazer and burn 'em down. That toyota slushbox ain't givin' you shit.

The old forester XT is basically still as fast despite having 3 more doors lmao.
