Apparently sportier to drive than VW counterparts, no glossy plastic interior, can actually disable Nannie’s unlike VW counterparts, quite a bit cheaper (sick deals online).
Picrel has the same torque vectoring AWD found in the latest Golf R.

They made Cupra a separate brand (previously it just was a performance trim, like VW R or Audi S), but half of their cars are just higher trim Seats. Like lower end Leons are branded as Seats, but higher end ones are Cupras, where previously Cupra was just a Leon trim with Golf R engine.
Also their positioning is stupid, previously Seat was less premium than VW, but more sporty, but now Cupra is supposed to be at the same "premiumness" as VW, but sporty?

That's because VW is phasing the Seat brand and replacing it with the Cupra. God knows what's the point of it.

Not really. Base 318i is around 44k, while a Formentor similar to the one in OP's pic, having a similar 2L engine, no other options, goes for 40k. Not much of a difference, if you ask me.

You could buy a naturally aspirated port-injected car and avoid being raped by an african on the bus though. Depends what you're into though.

I'd be mildly concerned about buying any new VAG car at this point. The number of faults in some of their brand new vehicles is worrying.
The Finnish motorists' association has been testing a new Tiguan PHEV over the past year. So far it's had the following episodes:

>12 V battery died overnight on multiple occasions
>software patch may or may not have fixed battery drain
>eventually needed a new 12 V battery
>5 days later, the coolant leaked (bad aluminum weld somewhere around the transmission?)
>at 8400 km, the car made a loud bang and went into limp mode
>PHEV charge timer not working (VW technical problem 2077016, fix maybe coming later this year)
>active safeties malfunctioned and started emititng codes with loud warning noises every few minutes, problem disappeared after car was powered down for a while

Apparently the dealer service's suggestion for some of these was watchful waiting.

Honestly speaking, they made seat fail by force, or at least by sheer incompetence, old ones were good as hell, but new ones were filled to the brim with millions of defective components, to the point there's countless videos of people having completely unusable high end seat cars that they need to get to an inspection to sue vw.

Didn't pretty much all VW Group cars suffer this when they rushed their new platforms into production?
The previous-gen models of many VAG cars were actually quite reliable If you didn't get one of those self-destructing DSG gearboxes. Even cheap SEATs and Skodas were mostly fine, really.
The newest gen hasn't been so good.

And even if you get one that doesn't have a ton of technical problems, it's still ruined with that glossy plastic touchshit they put everywhere, even on the steering wheel in some models.
I think even their execs apologized for going too far with their glossy futurism, but that doesn't fix all the cars that already went into production.

SEAT and Skoda were too similar as economy VW so Cupra is more distinct.

PHEV are the worst of both worlds. You get the engine unreliability of modern VAG + they haven’t figured out the electric bits yet. Same for Mercedes, my neighbour has an expensive PHEV wagon as a company car which spends more time at the garage than on the road. It has left him stranded multiple times.
Either get an ICE, a mild hybrid like a Toyota or a full-on EV like a Tesla. Don’t buy into a Frankenstein monster.
