Thoughts on the V10 Audi S8?

I just got home from driving a '09 that I was offered for around $3500.

Needs the following addressed:
Category | Minimum Cost (USD) | Maximum Cost (USD)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vehicle Purchase | 3460 | 3460
Suspension - Compressor | 1400 | 1850
Suspension - Solenoid/Valve | 300 | 300
Suspension - Links | 150 | 300
Engine - Coil pack (#10 or full set) | 60 | 600
Engine - Injector | 120 | 150
Engine - Vacuum hose | 20 | 50
Maintenance - Oil + Filter | 140 | 170
Maintenance - Air/Cabin/Fuel Filters | 100 | 150
Maintenance - Spark Plugs (20 pcs) | 300 | 400
Maintenance - Brake Fluid | 60 | 100
Maintenance - Coolant G13 | 50 | 80
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL | 6110 | 7960

Is 3.5k a good entry price? I already own a nice '14 ML350 as a daily and a NC Miata as a weekend car, this would just serve as a side project & secondary weekend fun car.

39k miles, 5k oil change intervals per seller's notes.

God that generation of Audis were so fucking ugly. They were trying too hard to look like Mercedes but kept using that hideous grill shape ending up with the worst of both styles.
I guess that keeps their prices down and gives a good cyl for buck.

You can shift gears on it buddy, you don't even need to move your legs while doing it! Hell you can keep both hands on the wheel, pretty cool huh?
Anonymous No.28585364 [Report] >>28585693
huh you can get a v10 for $3.5k ? since when

I guess so, fuck. I gotta add it to the spreadsheet.

I think they are classy, not a fan of the honeycomb/hyundai grille era personally.

I do kinda hate how the front end just looks like an elongated Passat but it comes with the VAGtory.

I would be so tempted to fit the pre-facelift front bumper on

I feel like you could get a better car with just a slightly newer S6 with the v8 - maybe it costs a bit more going into it - but you are going to spend at least 500 a month to maintain the v10

The split-pin V10 sounds better and you're not getting a D4 S8 for "a bit more" than 3.5k dude

I think you underestimate how much money you would have to pour into the V10 to keep it running. The cost isn't the buy-in, it's the maintenance.

If the timing chain was done I think you’re gonna be ok after the list is done. The air ride is what it is. It’s a great system but they just wear out and need fixed every 80k.
$3k is a steal. I saw one of these that was well maintained as far as paint and headlights and all that and it looked awesome and sounded amazing rolling down the highway.

>>28585774
The V8 S6 is good but still has the air ride and has turbos and other stuff to deal with. So you’d pay more and then still have the $7k for air ride hanging over your head. Also, I’ve owned the 4.0T and it’s good but the NA Audi engines are just better and everyone knows it.

Personally, if you get the V10 plan on $1k a year and have $5k saved for any problems. I bet it works out great though.
t. Owned and run new Audis.

I’d personally take a look at the old RS6 though. The ttV8 from back then. But that’s a whole different league of maintenance and cost to get in.

I've heard the timing chains on these are safer than in the 4.2
Anonymous No.28586780 [Report]

It's the same type of 4 chain setup on the gearbox sided of the engine, the biggest difference is the guides not completely being made out of plastic (but the tensioners still shit themselves)
