automatic
I've never driven a car with an automatic transmission before. It's so much easier than the manual, reee.

By the way, I spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out how to turn on D and R (in this car, you need to hold down the brake to turn on R)

why the fuck were you not already doing that?

I do not know if this should be done in a manual transmission.

Is this some kind of game about how to spot the poor shitbox user?

It's just weird not to be stopped and holding the brake to put it in reverse to me. Sounds like a bad habit you picked up.

The manual transmission does not require you to apply the brakes when you turn on the gears. If you're not rolling, it's not even dangerous for the box.

You can't release the clutch and step on the gas to get going while holding the brake. You have two legs.

I think most driving schools just teach you to use the handbrake with manuals.
If the car doesn't have a manual handbrake, it probably has some kind of hill-start assist.

Anons saying it's normal are wrong or only drive modern cars.
I rented an autotragic Nissan something or another a couple years ago on a trip and it required having the brake depressed for absolutely everything. The number of annoying nannies just reaffirmed how much I hate modern cars

Checked but to do heel-toe the pedals have to be designed to allow it. Usually the gas pedal sits in the air and too deep and you have to use the left and right sides of your upper foot to press them both.

Heel toe is only for flexible non-obese, typically Asians.
For wide foot Americans, it's just rocking the front of your foot.

I don't think cars with manual transmissions will have an electronic handbrake.

Are you the anon that argued in another thread that with manual transmission you don't have to press on the brake pedal after stopping and switching to neutral? The car standing with no brake system engaged is a rolling hazard, it's the most basic thing they tell you in any driving school and probably in the traffic code of your country as well.

In fact, I put the car in gear because I'm not very sure about the reliability of the handbrake. My car requires you to pull the clutch to start the engine anyway so its safe.

And how to start uphill without a handbrake
Anonymous No.28591839 [Report]
>>28591833
If it has some kind of assist function, the car will hold the brakes for you until the clutch bites, so you can have your right foot on the gas already.
Alternatively, just switch your right foot from brake to gas faster than the car can start rolling downhill. Works better if the engine doesn't stall too easily.

I got my license on manual and drove manual car for 3-4 months.
Then I tried automatic and never returned to manual.

I hate all the boomers and their

maybe you just don't really like cars?
manual is undeniably more engaging, and in cars worth owning, faster than autotragics.
Anonymous No.28591872 [Report] >>28591881

In a manual, it's a good way to stall the vehicle if you don't reach the biting point in time.

Just lift the clutch until the RPMs start to drop, then switch from brake to gas quickly
Got taught this way from the instructor, he said that using the handbrake is for pussies so won't teach that method

that's what I do too. worked fine for me when I drove through seattle with some of there horrendous hills
Anonymous No.28591930 [Report]

Yeah, that works most of the time.
If you're not familiar with the clutch, just find the bite point first by slowly lifting the clutch until you can feel vibration, the engine's sound changes a bit and/or the RPM gauge wiggles.
Just don't keep it there for long. Press it in a bit if you're not ready to go immediately.

I've only used the handbrake in dangerously tight spaces where the car really can't be allowed to roll even a little bit.
