He said faggy/furry shit constantly.
His builds were trash. They were barely functional meth fueled abominations. He heavily cropped his pics to hide his fuckups and garbage fabrication- sometimes he'd accidentally let evidence slip through and then ignore questions or critiques of it.
He literally drove around in a truck with no interior or instrument cluster with trash on the floor and said it was his favorite truck.

Dude was a scumbag tweaker AIDS riddled faggot. Im glad hes back in jail.

Are leaf springs under tension with the car jacked up? I would assume not, but I have to unbolt it from the front shackle and want to make sure I'm not dealing with an angry slab of potential energy
Anonymous No.28650626 [Report] >>28650631

If the frame is supported and the axle is hanging from the leaf packs then theyre under "reverse tension".
I would suggest supporting the frame and then moving the jack to the axle. You'll know when its at relatively neutral tension by how the hangers behave.

You had a leaking transmission.
The cross member is gross because of it.
Both are out of the car.
Wait- youre putting in a new transmission and bolting up the nasty, oil covered cross member ?!

Got a 4 pk of the seals for $20
Anonymous No.28663421 [Report]
>>28663373
I genuinely think they do this in some cases to make repair cost-prohibitive and thus the user is more likely to just buy a new vehicle. It's why I tend to avoid stealerships, especially now. Some stuff I just can't do myself and it needs 2 people and a lift though, so hard to find a decent private shop too. All they want to do is oil changes and tire rotations, ask them for anything more complex and they start making excuses OR they fuck it up and you're worse off for having hired them.

How do I find a good TJ and not get burned?
Anonymous No.28664018 [Report] >>28664026
>>28663987
Look for a collector's TJ, ideally one owned by a boomer that remains unmodified and was basically just a summer toy for them. They are rare but they are out there. Anything else is going to be someone's daily driver which was then bought up by offroaders who modified and beat on it, and it will show.

There's no "middle of the road" TJs left unfortunately, it's all beaten high mileage modified stuff or pristine low mileage stuff that will cost you more money.

Ideally look for something from Texas, Arizona, Nevada, or New Mexico as TJs do have rust issues and these are the cleanest territories.
Anonymous No.28664026 [Report] >>28664036
>>28664018
>There's no "middle of the road" TJs left unfortunately
There are.
That in-between stage where someone bought it from a boomer, modded it but only drove it to work on fridays. Not exactly common but dont walk away from one with a lift that you've only seen pictures of. There's a chance it just has some bolt-ons and never made it off asphalt.
Anonymous No.28664036 [Report]
>>28664026
I can't see anyone doing that with a TJ, they're too old and coveted for a normie to turn them into a pavement princess. If you were looking for a JK or JL I'd agree, definitely tons of those with a little lift and KO2s that have never left paved roads.
Anonymous No.28665155 [Report] >>28665166

Tool bag with impact wrench, spare battery, deep sockets, vise grips, pliers, adjustable wrench, mini sledge, pry bar, screwdrivers, hex keys, ratchet with regular sockets (3/8 drive), bottle jack, various pieces of 2x4 and 2x6 for platforming the jack or using to bash stuff free, smol shovel, big shovel, ComeAlong, chain, MaxTrax, NOCO booster pack, air compressor, flat tire repair kit, spare tire, tow straps, fire extinguisher, breaker bar, folding saw, hatchet.

As far as parts I bring spare fluids, some assorted chunks of flexible lines and rigid lines, hose clamps, stove wire, zip ties, o-rings, assorted nuts, bolts, and washers, JB weld (fuel safe one), some lubes, duct tape, MagicWrap (in case a line starts leaking), assorted fuses, paracord,

I don't bring any spare parts like CV axles, if one ever did break you can always disconnect and remove it and limp home in 3WD drive.

Might be forgetting some stuff but that's my usual handtool and parts loadout that fits into two .50cal ammo containers and a regular sized HUSKY tool bag.

They look like +35 offset so much fatter meats will rub without spacers (or negative offset aftermarket wheels). This can be slightly mitigated by going narrower when increasing radius. Or take a sledge to the wheelwells

Finally managed to finish my rear seat delete.
I already had removed the backrest and the cushion last year only keeping the metal frame of the bench part. But that was far from being perfect.
I had this metal grating laying around the rest was a few hours with angle grinder, stick welder and rattle cans.
>inb4 why didn't you just use wood?
I wanted something that allows me to use smol ratchet straps just how I need it depending on what I gotta haul on the bench. Also wood connected with screws tends to become a squeaky nuisance

This guy was having same intermittent lean bank 1 and 2 and after replacing basically everything he found vac leak around air intake control valve shaft so I guess Ill check this.
MAF seems fine. Vac lines don't seem dry rotted but are all 20y old. O2 sensors probably need replacing when I do headers.

Sometimes I hear tires while driving on the highway and I don't want those. And I don't care about chunky treads for aesthetics. And pic related with just some snow on it can be easily handled by normal all terrains or even highway-biased all terrrains. It's more the roads with big rocks in them and ruts, and of course, actual mud, that makes me wonder about MT.

>>28689005
I guess it's a hybrid of AT and MT.
That does look like some serious mud. I've somehow never really ended up in a super muddy place. Like I did do an iced over road with lots of ruts and some mud, and noticed the all terrains don't grip nearly as well in real mud.

>>28689024
that is NOT gonna work on the highway.

Do you guys deflate your tires on rough roads? If so, what do you use to re-inflate the tires?
Anonymous No.28693268 [Report] >>28693955
>>28692216
Deflating tires is only for more surface area for traction when climbing over boulders or traversing sand.
Having low pressure on "rough" roads while traveling at nominal speed is more likely to cause tire damage.

Yeah the Baja Boss' are ATs with an MT sidewall cutter. Absolutely eats deep snow.
That mud isn't too deep, gone through double that. Buried the tyres completely in water a few times without issue.

Bought a 97 Tacoma last week, haven’t had a 4x4 in 5 years since my 4Runner was written off. It needs some de-shitboxing. Previous owner made some ugly bumpers for it, pretty sure he welded the front to the frame. Rear brakes are looped off, fronts are pretty fucked. Truck is straight piped. It has nice wheels on it, but they’re 18”s off of a Chevy with wide 33”s on them and they rub at full lock.

I bought 235/85r15 pizza cutters, the Toyo spec chart said 32” tall, but rolling them up I think I probably could’ve gone a lot bigger.

I’ll post a pic of my new shitbox when it’s light out.
