Whats the cheapest way to take the offroad pill?

I have an F150 4x4 as a DD and I'm not going to risk damaging it so I need another rig.

Don't

Clearly you don't have the knowledge or skill for it.

get an F150 4x4 (awd is fastest)
raise it so you don't scrape the fenders on kerbs
add mud tires so you can recover from poorly taken corners more quickly
you now have the perfect track car

get a zr1
put a large fan on the underside to minimize air time + maximize grip
add slicks because sticky tires stick to rocks and dirt just as well as they stick to asphalt
you now have the perfect offroader

a used ATV, dirt bike, or sxs is going to be your cheapest option, regardless of the surface.

it really depends on where youre planning to take it. if youre running two track trails, you can run just about anything with 4WD, the right tire, and a lift. that includes impostors like the bronco sport and jeep cherokee, both of which are widely available and inexpensive. to an extent, mud and sand surfaces also fit in this category.

rock crawling requires a very specific set of tools, like approach and departure angles, 4WD LOW, front/rear lockers, solid axles, sway bar disconnects, etc. not many cars fit this bill, which is why the ones that do (4R, Bronco, Wrangler) are all extremely expensive

The 2005-2010 Grand Cherokee is a proper 4WD with Quadra-Drive II. Locking front and rear diffs, low range, etc etc. I paid $1800 for one recently and it's actually pretty good. Feels like a 90s car though in every way.

Only the Raptor is designed for off roading. The rest of the line is only designed for trips to the mall.

Buy and old F250 with solid axles.
