depreciation is a peak midwit thing to bring up. nobody buys a car thinking
>I’m going to drive this around for years and then turn it back into as much money or more than I paid for it
they buy a car with the mindset of
>I’m going to spend 28k on a machine I can use to make money and improve the quality of my life

I spent 18k on my car and I fully expect it to be as valuable as scrap metal when I replace it.

As for prestige, no not at all, hah. the interior was falling apart, it creaked and rattled, some dingus thought he was some kind of tunerbro and tried wrenching on it and completely fucked up so badly my mechanic told me to "run away from this car as fast as you can."

Well shit Anon, 4WD SUVs are kinda in the realm as RWD sports cars when it comes to holding dummy amounts of value because people want them, if you're not wanting to spend a lot of money, you're not gonna be driving a 4WD SUV, either that or just pay it, take care of the thing and have something yourself that has a good residual value.

It'd be sour grapes if I were stuck driving my shitmobile, but I'm not. It's reliable, it's rwd with lsd, good handling, physical controls for everything, cable throttle, hydraulic steering, good suspension, and it tows. The only thing a new car does significantly better is fuel economy.
Meanwhile the new car will have obnoxious safety features, will have a cheapola touch-screen, and I don't trust computerised systems to last.
That's even if I bought a very high end new car, which I would need to if I want to match or beat the driving quality that my old beater has. 95% of new cars are simply worse at this.

Also, I do have a new vehicle. My motorcycle is a 2020. I've also got an old 2003 motorcycle, with carbs, no fuel gauge and no ABS. I prefer the new bike's tech, but only because of the ABS. The fuel gauge sucks so much ass I'd give it and the EFI up to have a reserve tank back.

I wanted to plan for the future and get something that can last as long as possible but as far as I can tell I'm just gonna get fucked no matter what I do. I don't know how long newer cars will actually last in the age of planned obsolescence, 3-4 year old used cars seem like they're only slightly cheaper, and I'm willing to learn how to wrench if I found a good older car but I still don't know what the fuck I even want
