most of my pads are for advance left turns, and are positioned about 3/4 of a car length behind the line, and they don't all have secondary sensors. if you pull up properly to an intersection, it'll only trigger if a second car is also behind you waiting to turn. I confuse the shit out of people by actually stopping on the pad, which is stupid far (visually) from the intersection. lucky for me, it'll get me the advance green nearly every time

I've done this a few times. NPCs who stop short almost always do it because they need to get back on their phone again for their dopamine fix. If it's a left turn lane I'll pass the NPC on the left and make the turn when oncoming traffic has a gap. No I don't care about "making it dangerous" for NPCs.

NPCs wonder why people act a certain way that's different from theirs, actual people adapt to traffic conditions to make things comfy and quick. Another reason for doing early stops besides what anons mentioned is having proper visibility of traffic lights where they are obscured. Or you might want to give extra space to a bus or truck in the lane next to you right before a small roundabout that ensures your paths will cross. Or you have two lanes of unequal stopping points before a traffic light where you have some unpredictable monkey next to and slightly in front of youl, in case of which starting off in a blind spot will be a bad idea.

No, if you do this, you are based beyond belief. For uninitiated, that is the biker gap. Bikes filter through the traffic either way and will stop in front of you regardless of where you stop, but with a gap there they can stop without being forced over the stop line and onto the crosswalk. We are grateful to people who do that.

Are there really places that use cameras for timing their lights? I've seen plenty of induction and radar systems, but I always just assumed traffic cameras were just for surveillance. Most of the ones in my area don't even grab your plates if you speed through the intersection.
