Wagon pill
Why are sedans even a thing when wagons can do everything sedans can, plus:
>they have significantly more cargo space
>they look much cooler
I just dont get why sedans are normal why wagons are an exotic rarity. If you want sportiness you get a coupe, if you want utility you get a wagon. Sedans are just a pointless inbetween. Having owned a wagon Im never buying a sedans ever, I just dont see the point.

wagons usually weigh more or less the same as sedans, and its not like even a 20% increase is significant in real world conditions
>ugly as shit
you have no taste. wagons have that presence, stateliness, sedans look too basic. even cars that look kinda crappy in a sedan form usually look okay as wagons (mitsu lancers, most 3 series bmws and kiyundais come to mind). whoever promotes the idea that wagons are "old fart cars" is a moron honestly

Sorry bud but obviously the car-buying public agrees, wagons look like shit
They trade looks for storage space and having a spacious trunk is one of the last things on young people's minds when buying a car

I weighed my E34 540i touring and it weighed just over 200lbs more than the closest spec sedan weight I could find on the forums. It was years ago but that was the result.
>2 extra windows
>hatch with wiper and washer reservoir
>2ft ish of extra roofline
>double sunroof instead of the smaller one in the sedan
I think most of the extra weight is the glass and the sunroof. Unfortunately the higher models were never available without that shitty sunroof, mine did not work and leaked.

i have a spec sheet for the exact same car, same year, same powertrain

Unladen, DIN for the wagon is 175 lb heavier and the wagon Cd is significantly worse at 0.31 vs 0.26 for the sedan

cuckovers have a shitload of drawbacks. their center of gravity is extremely high making them handle like shit and prone to rollover, they have worse visibility and the extra sheetmetal makes them heavier then regular cars. they also objectively look like shit because they are esentially regular cars trying to look like offroaders and failing miserably-essentially trannies of the car world
Anonymous No.28695300 [Report]
why do you care that the center of gravity is higher but not when it's farther back? especially since modern estates are all FWD.

To an utterly negligible degree, and they're still safer overall than small cars
Chuds just seethe about crossovers because they're nice cars for people with families and jobs, not decades-old shitboxes for the unemployed

Or, you can combine those in to one model and reduce your RnD costs.

Jokes aside you're literally describing small crossovers. Just look at the Subaru Crosstrek and tell me that isn't a station wagon.

Every front engine coupe with a back seat would be 100% improved by being a hatchback instead.

Anonymous No.28695635 [Report]
>>28695365
Ehh depends. If the wagon is $100k and 5000lbs then you might as well just go with an SUV at that point. Handling is irrelevant at that point and an SUV is infinitely more practical. Even something like a 3900lb Outback at $40k+ doesn't make much sense when you can get a large crossover a an entry level pickup at that point.

Wagons look gay and ugly. Sedans look cool and stylish. I'd rather just get a hatchback than ugly wagon. I'm also a light traveller, I don't item hoard. People don't buy wagons anymore as they are weird ugly abominations.

Wagons and sedans both aren't things anymore because every car manufacturers realized the meta was cheating on CAFE standards by selling nothing but "light trucks" in lieu of actual cars. Shitheads then proceed to take them at face value when they say they're "responding to market trends" as if they aren't responsible for this market in the first place.

Corolla cross is built off the Corolla platform, it's a lifted Corolla wagon (essentially just an updated Matrix), RAV4 is a lifted Camry wagon. All the "crossovers" are like this, they're all fucking wagons.

There's a subset of brain damaged foreigners that have decided to call various flavors of SUV a wagon in their butchery of the english language.
Even OP is posting something that would be better classified as a hatchback due to how short the ass is, with how the rear cargo area ending above or shortly after the rear wheel.

Depends on the car. Some are outright ugly as wagons.

I never see granny's or old people with wagons, they seem to mostly have really old landyachts or some brand new econobox like a Hyundai hatchback.
Anonymous No.28700961 [Report] >>28700982
I don't give that much of a shit about *cargo* space, but I always thought "a wagon" was the requirement for having enough "space" to sleep in the car
HOWEVER I tried sleeping in my tiny G42 230i coupe and at 6'4 I was able to sleep fairly comfortably with my entire body and legs straight with my toes only barely touching the trunk, AND I think there was even plenty enough space for a second person
this put a serious dent in how I view wagons, I could be a hobo with a coupe as well!
Anonymous No.28700982 [Report] >>28701053
>>28700961
There are sedans that also have folding seats too, so you can sleep in those if you really want.
Anonymous No.28701053 [Report] >>28701058
>>28700982
my previous elantra was exactly the same size as 230i and yeah there was a bunch of space too, I never tried sleeping in it though

my point is that additional "cargo space" wagon has over coupes/sedans is actually just "a larger and convenient space for cargo" and doesn't enable any particularly super new scenarios beyond hauling slightly more and slightly larger shit
if I fold the seats in my coupe I have an ENORMOUS amount of space. I wasn't able to get my new air conditioner box into a trunk though, so you definitely trade hauling convenience with a coupe

Pretty much. Wagon versions are rarely long and just have the taller rear advantage. I've still loaded long pieces of wood or boxed up furniture into sedans with folding seats.

Anonymous No.28701239 [Report]
>>28701199
yeah, but its harder to access and organize cuz you have to reach down and in

also, I wish non-luxury wagons had air suspension
the whole value of an SUV is that enhanced ride height for water crossings and rough roads but it would be so much nicer to be able to select a lower ground clearance for highway driving and hike up the car just for shitty roads

but air suspensions are apparently unreliable and cost a fortune to replace and nobody has come up with a better solution
Anonymous No.28701243 [Report]

the platform determines the framing points of the chassis
I mean yes you can have a slightly wider or longer chassis on the same platform but broadly speaking cars on the same platform have the same chassis

When I was stationed in England, I had a 2014 Jaguar XF Sportbrake with a 1.4 liter diesel in Artic White. It was the best car I've ever owned. I literally dream of that car. Only vehicle I've loved more is the 1998 Jeep TJ I bought when I was 18 years ago at 21. I still own that one.
