I always liked these but holy cow do they have a deserved reputation as an endless money pit.

my mum has a diesel XF and holy moly that thing is reliable. she drives it like shit constantly (we live next to a motorway so she goes from stone-cold engine to 70mph in less than 30s every morning), never does any maintenance, not even an oil change, and the engine has never faltered.
there was a stuck throttlebody after about 8 years i as I recall, but after I unstuck it for her it worked totally fine once again.

The AJV8 is a good engine and ZF gearbox pairing is also great

This and the old 2000s ones are so sexy. I miss jaguar, I'm shooting for a 1998 xj6 soon.

The XJS V12 is one of my dream cars
Personally i think its useless ever since it got nerfed. Even in mvm mode.

2.2td XF (2nd gen) is pretty bullet proof.
Not the fastest. Maybe that's why it's reliable.

I'd love to get an XJ6 like this as a big comfortable crooser. The Jag reputation as unreliable, expensive and difficult to work on shitboxes is kind of off putting but the aesthetic is so nice. Does older tend to imply simpler and easier to work on for these things or was build quality better in the 00s?

It was better in the oughts but those cars are butt ugly in comparison. I intend to look for engine replacements, living in the land down under I have plenty of good straight 6s which could supplement the issue.
