Is this the best lighter?
I used to use Clipper, and even though they are refillable, they have worse construction than pic related.
These Bics are pretty damn nice, except you cannot refill them.
Is there a better electric lighter out there? I need something that can withstand temperature fluctuations.
All disposable lighters I've ever used turn into a crack torch in a hot car or barely work when they are cold.
Either way I have to palm it for a few minutes, or put it in my pocket to get a normal flame.

I /out/ a lot with an old school Zippo lighter. I carry extra fuel and flints for it.
Disposable lighters are so unreliable that you need a minimum of 2 or three. A Zippo allows you to start the flame and set it down next to your tinder to start a fire. Not having to hold the button as you do with disposable lighters is a big plus if you are in wet or damp conditions.

I used to buy pic related. the extended neck breaks off easily. i rarely get a chance to refill it before tossing it.
I prefer piezo cause the rolling flint ones do not work at all if you introduce a single drop of sweat. the constant attempt to get it lit up also hurts my fingers after a while
also the child lock bullshit and also that ive never seen a long reach lighter with a flint.

zippos evaporate in a week, and you cant keep them in a car.
also, i need a long reach lighter.

Not terribly off topic but instead of palming the lighter stick it in your armpit. Heats it up faster and letโ€™s you use your hands while it warms.

Thank you very much, I don't know what problems I was having I couldn't find it anywhere.
I've wanted a standard bic-shape lighter with a built-in keychain hole for a long time now.

As a smoker who has quit, I can tell you that this doesn't matter. You can smoke every day, using a Bic 1-3 dozen times a day, and it'll last months. The point of a Bic is that it's reliable.

I used to use a zippo but it kept running out because the gas evaporated.
4-5 bics are better, more redundancy if one breaks, weighs about the same and yeah you can't use it as a candle but that's fine with me.
I just have them in all my individual gear bags to give me the best chance of keeping at least one of them dry.

Has anyone tried that butane insert you can get for a zippo? It should eliminate the evaporation problem at least.

It does. They don't leak. But the twin barrel butane torch version that I have sucks juice like a motherfucker, and the fuel tank has a rather low capacity. So while out in the field, don't rely on it as your only source of fire. Mine ran out of gas last winter while I was /out/ and about, and I had to switch to a backup torch.

Other than that, it's been pretty good for something that Zippo contracted from the chinese, and I do like mine.

Anyone have experience with something like pic related? I don't carry zippos around for cigarettes anymore but I have a spare insert I'm itching to make use of. Also, piezo-butane or flint-fluid for starting a fire in shitty conditions?

I've been using a titanium zippo case with a rubber seal that I got off aliexpress for a few years now. After moderate use it was still lighting reliably a month later when I tested it.

All the bics I leave in my vehicle as backup all fucking lockup. Unsure if itโ€™s corrosion. I still have 3 Ronson bic-likes that I bought two trucks ago that still work. You can also turn up the flame. Shame I canโ€™t find them locally anymore.

I love that bic lighter. If you wrap duct tape around one you have a cheap survival lighter and they make great gifts. The only thing I don't like about Bic lighters is the fact that they are not designed to be refilled. I know you can refill them but the process is a bit hacky. Still worth it if you have one that you really like though.

I had the Exotac Titanlight on my Amazon wishlist for a long time and I really regret not pulling the trigger. It was a $50 lighter and now it sells for $100, if you can even find one. That Pyrovault does look pretty nice thoguh and I wonder if it's a good alternative for a classic Zippo style lighter made for outdoor standards.
