The purpose of this general is to encourage people to go /out/ and find cool fossils and artifacts. This thread is also a place to share our own collections and things we find when we are /out/ hunting.

Rules are as follows,
>To just post and discuss fossils and other related geological subjects.
>When you post about a fossil in your collection, please label it with what formation it is from, what it is, and where in the world it is from.
>If you don't know where it originated or the species that is ok, just label it as so
>You can post rocks and minerals as long a they are ones that you have found while /out/

Sorry for the lack of a post/new thread, Life has been far too hectic to keep up with this thread on the past few months and my last trip fossil hunting was last November. Pic related is a segment of fish spines that have feeding traces on them. I should hopefully be making another trip up to the Dallas area to do some more hunting soon.
Fish spine with feeding traces, Britton Formation, Eagle Ford Grupe, Denton Co. Texas

Nice Metamorphic rocks anon

More fish fossils this time around. Here's what looks to be a section of vertebra and tail fin of a nice sized fish but there's too little to tell what species it is from for me to say what fish it belongs too. Britton Formation, Eagle Ford Group, Denton Co. Texas

not him but it's usually a matter of knowing what animals have been found in the formation and then going by size. In the oldman formation there's only one theropod dinosaur of that size.

You can also tell that the teeth belong to a tyrannosaurid by their thickness and shape, but that's just a matter of looking at lots of different dinosaur teeth to learn.

Hard to say without breaking off a chunk to see unweathered surfaces. It could be a pyrite or hematite nodule. Or depending on where you found it there's a very good chance it's a big chunk of smelter slag that has been bouncing around in a river for the last hundred years.

not a great pic but it doesn't appear to be worked. The flakes are very worn and random, and most of them don't break the rind. My guess would be natural.
The bottom edge is shaped like a thumb scraper, but again doesn't appear to be worked. A better focused pic would give more info, but it doesn't look like an artifact to me.

found this sitting right in the middle of a trail. Is this an omarolluk or a nutting stone?

My bet is on an omar because I live in a glacial area and it makes more sense to be sitting in the middle of a trail with decent foot traffic, but I realize that I don't really know how to tell the difference between the two. How does one tell?

No idea what this one could be.
It was covered in red rust when I found it, so I left it marinating in sulfuric acid for the night. Before, it looked almost golden under the crust, but now it's clearly metallic grey.
It's also very dense and heavy, more so than iron by my rough estimate. Also, it's non-magnetic.

Maybe a more educated anon would know more. I'm completely clueless about geology.

If it was rusting and it's not magnetic then it's a random piece of corroded steel or hematite. Try to draw with it on a hard surface, if it leaves behind a red streak then it's hematite
