Grass carp are intentionally stocked to keep weeds down, and if they are sterilized, which I'm pretty sure they are, they are produced at great cost.

What would you throw at this location. Below a dam, fast current, shallow water there might be some deep pockets but itโ€™s around 4-5 feet deep, lots of rocks. Typically need a minimum of 1/4oz to get down deep enough. There are walleye, large and small mouth, stripers, hybrids, musky, pike, carp, large catfish. Iโ€™ve had luck with paddle tails but want to try some other lures to see what I can get. Iโ€™ve been thinking about trying a Carolina rigged fluke?

You could look in to spoons, fish are oddly attracted to fluttering bits of metal, you can usually cast them a long way, and there are a variety of spoons and ways to fish them- jigging spoons, flutter spoons, trolling spoons (trolling spoons are often too light to cast/cast efficiently. Use a Carolina rig, but with a trolling spoon instead of lure or bait)
Other than that flukes and paddle tails would be my go-to

I'll probably add more info later, but this is what happened today. I fell off a cliff while trying to get to a fishing spot. I somersaulted multiple times. No loss of consciousness. It took me hours to get out of there, and by then, it was really dark. There are no trails in this place, so navigation was a bit of a challenge. No broken bones or equipment, as far as I can tell.

Temperature is the biggest factor. Youll want to keep em between 33-38ยฐF to slow down bacterial growth.

For storage, bottom most shelf, ideally in the door. If you want to be extra safe, double up on your containers and accout for longer thaw time. Make some sanitizer water (iirc its a tablespoon of bleach for a gallon of luke warm water), wipe the outside of the shrimp container with a paper towel. Use a new paper towel and do the second inside and out, then the spot in the fridge.

Wipe that spot and the surrounding area again when you take em out, and remove the second container from service till its properly washed.

The purpose is to slow bacterial growth as much as possible. Shits gonna grow no matter what, even in the freezer.

If it matters, ive been in food service and have a current servsafe cert.

Be sure to wash the fuck out of your hands before and after handling.

I should add that time is also a factor, but 24-48 hours *should* be ok with the above steps.

Better still, get the smallest mini fridge/freezer combo you can that supports your application and isolate it as much as possible. Then you could skip the second container, but youd still want to be sanitizing.

Do as you will, and if you end up hospitalized from it report back so we can laugh at you.

Stretch is almost always bad. The only time it can be beneficial is when you're bombing big baits and need shock absorption. Mono is good simply because it is clear, cheap, floats, and is abrasion resistant. The one thing that mono monopolizes is the cheapness factor. The other lines have their uses and are quite good in the correct application with fluorocarbon being the least beneficial.

>the only time [stretch] is beneficial is bombing big baits

Not innately true; it is good on moving presentations like trolling, fishing crankbaits or spinners, and other similar fast moving baits that tend to get hard, and stretch helps keep barbless hooks pinned and keep hooks pinned in fish with fragile mouths like crappies. It also makes a good leader because of its stretch, and flourocarbon also stretches as much as 30%

Offshore guys run a 100โ€™ or longer heavy mono โ€œtop shotโ€ that acts like a large scale tippet on a fly rod just because no stretch can cause breakoffs even on relatively small fish. But yeah I agree, for general freshwater/inshore fishing I prefer little to no stretch in my setups just because it improves my hookup ratio.

I don't really have further details to add to the cliff story. I have some knee pain and limp a little and soreness over my body. Yesterday, I went to a scenic, pastoral stream. I started out with my euro rod and caught one nice brown, but it is such a fast rod that I decided to switch to tenkara. I caught more fish on the tenkara rod and had a much better time casting. I've had some trouble sleeping, so I'm only now going to head out to fish for a few hours before heading home. I will definitely be heading out to the same spot where I injured myself, but I might be waiting until the fall or go out very early in the day.

Turtle soup used to be a staple of the southern diet, like clam chowder is to the north. But, due to over harvesting, soft shell turtles were placed on the endangered species list. Norcal here, Shasta county. Most of the lakes are either state or federal parks and will have day use fees associated, but you can also buy an annual pass. I'm a disabled veteran, so I actually have a free lifetime pass. Check out https://store.usgs.gov/recreational-passes.

Rivers and creeks are all open to the public and the lumber and electric companies provide access points to many spots. Check out your local tackle shop to find maps to river access points(should be free or they're ripping you off)

is there a trick to distinguishing between a fish taking nibbles at my lure and the hook grazing weeds/rocks?

baitcasting for lures 1/2oz and heavier. I even use a baitcaster now for 1/4oz lures, but it requires a more pricey rod and reel designed for lighter lures if you want any real casting distance.

Just asking people's opinions. I've got two spinning reels and just purchased a baitcaster to try it out. I mainly fish for bass.

I think by "what are you doing" he means "what are you throwing out" since baitcasters aren't good for extra light setups. My only advice as a person who formerly hated my baitcaster and now tolerates it is to stick primarily to using weighted lures for a baitcaster. I like using mine for carolina rigs and my spinner's for bait

I use a lot of wacky worms on my spinners but I've been wanting to branch out into other lures to try them out. This is good to keep in mind, thank you.

Was out with some buddies this weekend when I had a bite and hauled in what I was certain was a good laker.
When I caught it I was so confused, It looked like a completely different type of trout I didn't know existed but that's impossible.
I went on with the trip and the next day some guys in the parking lot told me that 2 lakes in that area have a naturally occuring subspecies of silver lake trout that only exist in those lakes.
Super excited, was such a nice surprise and it's probably the rarest fish I ever caught. The pic is after I bled it, the grey "spiderwebbing" wasn't there when I first caught it, was a nice pale silver all the way.

Spinner is a terrible word. It could be a spinning rod/reel, any multitude of lures primarily used for trout, the big bass bait, or a fly.

>what are context clues: the post

If you've got any kind of schooling you've covered homophones, Americans typically cover that around the same age that saying words like "ass" and "pussy" is peak comedy.

Yeah that's what I mean, give us some context. If you want to get in to frogs, swimbaits, or punching I think a baitcaster is a good idea. If you just want to keep fishing wacky worms your spinning setup is going to do better, though your baitcasting combo will work. Baitcasters shine when you want more direct control, when you're throwing heavier presentations, and when you're winching more than reeling.

I'm an American, a native English speaker, and an experienced angler. They're not homophones either. Break and brake are homophones. Kelly Galloup recently talked about how fly anglers thought he was throwing metal, in-line spinners. To have so many different and separate things represented by the same term within the same niche, fishing, is a problem. "That's thing spins. Let's call it a spinner," is incredibly stupid and uncreative. I want to invent some new baits that spin just to muddy the waters and further prove my point.

Homographs, pardon me.

I can only think of 3 kinds of spinners that pertain to fishibg- inline spinnerbaits, offset spinnerbaits, and spinning reel. There are plenty of things that spin and aren't called spinners, too. Buzz baits, whopper ploppers, spy baits, and pistol Pete flies all have spinning elements and aren't typically referred to as spinners- usually in context type of spinner is indicated. A spinning reel or spinning combo is generally understood to be referencing a spinning reel, spinner bait on its own generally tends to be in refference to offset spinners, and so on. Sometimes inline spinners aren't even called inline spinners, musky guys call them bucktails even when constructed with no bucktail- which could be confused with bucktail jigs which are also called bucktails and can be identified with context clues. If you're in Minnesota musky fishing your bucktail is probably a big inline spinner. If you're in Maine fishing for stripers your bucktail is probably a bucktail jig.

Real story. I got swept into a river, overturned my canoe, and just barely managed to drag myself ashore while nearly every fishing item I had got washed down river to who knows where.
