I want to talk about carrying shelter and water on a bicycle and starting with a plan, not a dream.

Stopped being neet after rewatching KLK and realizing I wasted my youth/20s. That’s fine, life isn’t over. Bought a road/gravel bike, got some biking sites and chatgpt for route suggestions, it’s time. Gonna see everything lower 48 state on my own power. I could never do this as a poor min wage wagie saving up for a cagie, but I can just do it now. So I did actually, I’m two or so counties over from where I started.

Now wot? Have any other anons lived the drifter life? How do I find good stealthcamp spots so cops don’t burn my tent and retard tweakers dont do me like kevin nash in the summer of 92?

Good on you. Tell us more.

We all have at least the potential to make more money in the future, we can never go back and recapture time that is now gone.

What if you get too cold?

What if tweakers attack your tent with a baseball bat?

What if you get tired?

How will you pay for food?

Where will you store all the toilet paper you need on long routes?

oh COUNTIES nevermind. dont rely on chatgpt for route suggestions would be my first advice, actually put in the effort to learn and research the places you're visiting, it'll be more fun and you'll get to more interesting places. never wild camped in the US but prioritize sneaky above nice. not all camp spots are gonna be magical with great views. actually a lot of the time on a very long tour they are just gonna be places to sleep.

Yeah chatgpt sucks ass, I swapped it for some other websites that show water sources and some nice bike paths. I’m just circling the cities and areas I know first, getting a feel for having my ass pounded by the seat, hoping i get used to pain and hunger before i set off into the Unknown Unknowns. I also have a small dilemma of wanting to learn more about new areas with research and prep beforehand vs. the feel of discovery and pleasant surprise. Hard to balance the two.

sleeping bag+jacket+staying in southern states come winter, i suppose

then I’m fucked, I am not a karate master, thats why stealth camping is the only possible option when in or near cities. Cities are just unfriendly towards homeless there’s no way around it

so far, on Test Day Number 2, I have to say, I think getting tired is just gonna be a constant. feel like the walking dead.

no idea im broke, spent my last monies on the damn bike

i have a small bag that has tp+wipes+bidet cap for water bottle on it. Panniers wouldve been legendary, but the ortlieb ones I wanted were 120 at REI and I don’t have 120

Based, this is always a fallback for me if everything else in life goes to shit. One of my good friends was really into bike packing and I wish I went along with him before he passed away. I might do some motocamping on my little 250. The main thing for me is it really fucking hurts my ass riding motorcycles or bikes. Definitely getting a padded seat or those padded butt underwear for bicycling those help me a lot. Definitely start a youtube and let us know. I will watch.

Extremely early 30s in AL. Land is extremely flat but extremely hot and will only get worse as summer gets going, triple digits are a given. Your 30s and 40s are your last chance to have fun and explore before nkt being able to. I am a fat fuck but losing weight every day. yesterday I even didn’t jiggle when I jumped, and my moobs are all gone. only 40 more pounds till I’m in the 100s, its never too late bro just get a 200 dollar tent and ramen and go

I had to sell my 2nd laptop that I was using for editing at a pawn shop for money but that is ok. I will learn on the first shitty one. It is never too late. Every day I hate myself for not doing this earlier yet it quickly gets drowned by loving myself for finally doing it. It is hard and I am very hungry but I am alive.
Please buy a pair of used bike shorts and a padded saddle, they both saved my life because my ass was simply a giant flare of unbearable pain and now i’m big chilling.

doing full diy bikepack build. bike found in the dumpster, no brakes, no gear system (i'll just manually change it if i have to idc) live in ontario so shit is just mainly flat country roads.

basket build consists of a draining bowl thing, 3 hotdog skewers locked in with hose clamps. 30lbs weights as proof of concept. probably not going to carry anything heavier than that in it.

budged and bought a rear rack and i'm going to rig up some tarps for a frame bag and saddle bag type of thing.

yes it's retarded, yes i'm proud of it and excited to adventure on it.

It’s not technically “wise”, but it’s my only option, I feel. I already waited 4 years for the government to deny my SSDI application. Nobody is hiring for even entry level jobs doing dirty laundry at a hotel or wageslaving at goddamn Amazon Warehouse. This is the play, mang. I’m going to travel to every single state without paying for gas. There HAS to be a job out there somewhere that a no-college former NEET can do. Hell I think people seasonally hire shepherds in Arizona or something. Think I heard of some farm work in exchange for pay and room thing somewhere on Plebbit. Not sure what it’s called but that’d be perfect, these past few weeks losing 40 pounds and getting outside reminded me how much I love nature

This is the only way a poor can provide for himself man, I really believe that. Dont have enough for a plane ticket, it’s do this, keep posting on YT, and pray to whoever is listening that it works

From my limited experience and from reading books; this sounds like a good way to get analed. And not from a cute femboy or a hot tranny. Is this federal or do different states have different policies?
>Nobody is hiring for even entry level jobs doing dirty laundry at a hotel or wageslaving at goddamn Amazon Warehouse.
I know.
It is hell.
I face the same issue.
You apply for an entry level job that requires no experience, then they ask you if you have any experience to which you say no. Then they happen to hire someone who happens to have 10 years experience for that role (which pays minimum wage).
This society sucks.

However spending your savings biking around is going to put you into a really deep hole when your money runs out. Are there no recruitment agencies that you can apply to? Have you tried going to a church, community center or volunteer group? Don't get me wrong, I'm not christian, but many of them have food banks which can help you out with food and it's good to have some connections that may help you to get into work.

You can even join groups that are helping "ethnic" or "minority" people. By law they cannot discriminate against other races. Ages ago, I joined a Chinese one, they created a CV for me and helped me get a job, even though I'm not Asian.

PLEASE set aside enough money to buy a bus or plane ticket back to your parents house if an emergency happens. Stay safe out there anon.

You will get over this, my brother traveled far longer than me as a lone wolf and I only recently got him to open up to the traveling communities this last year. There's a lot of very good, if not superior people on the road. I spent a summer camping with a guy named CK who couldn't move without his body being in constant pain. He lived in the spot for about 3 years and had a deal with forestry. As long as you aren't a twink nobody is going to fuck with you, guys have a much safer time on the road. I've been working on a book about my experiences specifically because other people's books are full of bullshit, if I'd recommend one you try Hobo Sapien.

Stealth camp in a tent? Find some bushes and put down the sleeping bag. Always worked for me. Slept in some bushes next to a McDonald's drive thru, in the edge of a train yard, on top of sprinklers next to town hall (who needs an alarm clock?) ninja camping is easy, just don't over think it and wake up with the sun

never know who’s a fucking creep man. Or a thief

And not even other travelers or native homeless, what most scares me is the zogbot pigs. One of then absolutely trashed an old man’s tent in Shelby County for absolutely no reason, guy was “giving him sass” and he felt threatened as a 250+ pound guy with a gun taser and stick, so he destroyed his living space. Consequence-free. I’ve been sleeping in random tree-d spots and behind industrial parks just to get away from humans, man, can’t see myself getting over it and just trusting anyone that smiles at me. We’ll see…maybe….

>>2823465
Federal, you’re thinking of food stamps/EBT as the state by stte thing. Which I could also use, except the registration is months long, and since their methods are outdated, if you go on Plebbit the entire subreddit is filled with stories of people having their benefits stolen automatically as soon as they’re filled, with no refunds or recourse. There is no social safety net in this country.
I have tried all of those things; most church groups only help women and kids OR just want to use homeless for free labor setting up tents in their megachurch parking lot in exchange for one(1) stale Pb/J. at least in my experience, the temp agencies just wanted to take half a minimum wage paycheck which wouldnt even leave me anything to save up long term after food/hygiene costs, and most local community centers/food banks have been closed courtesy of Kay Ivey. Or Reagan. Or going back far enough, the industrial revolution, but suffice it to say if you’re a poor male in america dont think anyone gives two shits about you, race/religion/mental health state are all irrelevant when it comes to poverty.
I do have 300 that I plan to use for emergencies only, but my surviving prent will be meeting Death soon and is in no shape physically or financially to care for a neet anyway. It’s time to take the baby bird route and either fly or die

There's no such thing as "native homeless", they're called homebums and they're harmless drug addicts. The only dangerous homebums are in places like Atlanta and New Orleans. You have no business being in those places ever, and should just avoid them. I've never had a bad experience with other travelers and I hitchhiked a whole circuit through the US multiple times. The only dangerous people I've seen have been normalfags and bikers, and they're very easy to avoid. Unless you're some kind of troon or faggot you'll be fine anywhere, you talk like a city slicker and I'd work on that first and foremost.

I'm thinking about doing part of the Appalachian Trail and if I like that, maybe upgrade to bike camping.
Like OP, I basically want to live outside like a bum so my only cost is food.
The question I came here to ask is, do you think it is feasible to do bike camping with an e-bike and have the battery bank in a backpack that I carry into a McDondalds and stealth charge over half an hour to an hour?
I haven't really done my research on ebike battery chargers as you can probably tell, but it seems to me that it would be extremely hard to travel with only man-power especially in mountainous areas.

Listen, behind soda vending machines is a hollow space usually next to an electric outlet, you can put your battery and charger inside this hollow overnight while it's plugged in and it will charge your stuff secretly so you don't have to spend 6 hours inside a McDonald's,also mountains are small, you will have like 7 miles of steep incline at most, you can walk that in three hours with a good break at the halfway point then you just roll down the mountain although I've had headwinds so strong I needed to pedal down mountains before, it's easy stuff especially when you are not pressed for time

This is an insane tip, thanks anon. No idea how you discovered this.
I asked chatgpt if I can charge a 1kw battery in under an hour and it said I could with special batteries and a special charger.
Your method seems better, but I don't know if every town has an outdoor vending machine.

I am out of shape, but I’m losing weight daily. I went from a pound a week to 2 or 3 pounds a week and can finally call myself not fat, now. I don’t jiggle when I jump except for under my arms and I no longer have mini-moobs. Highly recommend bicycling to anyone, vagabond-ing it or no.

That said,>>2824667
>>2824598 is correct. I am not a lycra warrior racing rich WASPS on Strava. I have a hardtail and a dream, but don’t need speed at all. I am heading vaguely west in search of employment but it’s not a now or never situation, my water filter and some ramen’s keeping me alive.

Also, ebikes are retarded and for lazy losers. Please do not try to larp-travel with a HEAVY, FLAMMABLE battery inside your bicycle because going uphill is hard. It’s gonna be hard no matter what but removing the challenge is just going to cheat yourself. Also ebikes are shit and break within months. Yes, even the expensive ones. No, you can’t just take the electric stuff off and ride normally. And no, you can’t unplug random ice machines or vending machines to charge unless your dumbass wants to get robbed by gas station zombies or worse, robbed by cops. Don’t be a fucking dumbass. >>2824684
I hate non- /out/ larpers. Spend a few werkends first pedaling a normal bicycle and get used to that before committing. I didn’t do that, so the muscle soreness is beating my ass, but it’ll get better slowly over time. If you are dedicated and not actually a larper, it behooves you to practice and get comfortable with hauling weight over long periods of time while you have a home and place to recover.

Props if you can actually do it long term. I'm a camping hobo myself but I have an old f150. I have 3 different tents for the conditions, a few Walmart tarps and 2 actual good tarps. I carry 5 gallons of propane, 3 different sleeping bags, and a 35 gallon ice chest. Tons of different clothes, a medicine cabinet, you get the picture. I've been downsizing my gear the whole time too, but also expanding for every situation.

I've been living in national forests and BLM land for years and I love it. But I would have lost my mind in the first few months if all I could take is what could fit in a bike pannier and trunk. At this point yes I can live on 2 pairs of pants. But 2 years ago it would have been almost impossible and even now I wouldn't want to do it.

I think it’s pretty cool I would watch your YouTube shit. My favorite channels have been solo sailing fags and van life fags and stuff like this.

I think you should have another angle to it though. Instead of just trying to live a man needs a goal. You should be trying to accomplish something as you travel. Fucking girls as a hobo would be an impressive display of charisma. Writing a book perhaps. Spreading some awareness. Just have some kind of higher purpose beyond existing imo

a license is not stopping you from being free, you're still on records even without one, the only part that is "unfree" is the price of gas and insurance. good luck biking 4000 miles up and down hill and not finding some other reason that completely halters your progress

An angle, huh? A gimmick? Yeah that makes sense. But I am the first to admit I am not very creative. What's something that would make people click? Something to keep people walking? "some guy trying to work his way up from zero employment and zero prospects into a happy life" will not fit into a thumbnail and does not provide a cool story arc, i admit...

>>2824726
Funny enough, no. Everything just looks dreary and it's just abandoned downtown after abandoned city after gas station after crackhouses after abandoned steel mill. Part of that is just Bama, I suppose, but part of it is just being shite at navigation. I have just been recording boring cycling on the side of highway b roll and tent setup/sleeptime so far.

I'm the anon you called a larper.
When it comes to purpose, I am going to make a hobo youtube channel, learn to play a ukulele or charango, and use a tablet to draw at night on comics. I already know how to program so I might also use the godot app on my tablet to make simple 2d pixel games as devlog content for youtube and maybe make some ad money.
The biggest problem with my "gimmicks" is the added weight and need for recharging electronics.
If anyone asks, why not do these in a comfortable house; I have a crippling addiction to doing random shit on my PC and I'm hoping hobo life is such a shock to my system that it's like a full system restore to my psyche. But, I might just have ADHD or something or be a loser.

>I am going to
This is how you move forward from larp: never say I am going to. That shit fucked with me for years, and I kept putting it off and putting it off and suddenly I wake up and I've spent five fucking years playing league of legends conviniced that I was gonna be the next north american video games superstar. Just do stuff! Go out and start.

Now, as far as tablets, programming and such, you CAN do it, but you're gonna need to buy a few expensive power banks and also be near power outlets, which will limit where you can go, obviously. Probably gonna need to plug into a library or a hotel every 2 or 3 days, so keep that in mind.

Hobo Life, as you call it, is a shock to the system, yes, but it's also not a vacation. There's ticks outside. There's cagie drivers that think every bicycle rider is a target, because they are all retarded and talking to Shelley and Jamie on the phone about their next dunkin donuts trip. And, cant stress this enough, there's no air conditioning on the highway.

Please please PLEASE do an overnight trip in a tent, or 3 days in your local park's campgrounds, before just jumping full in.

I say this cause I jumped full in unprepared, and it's ruff. Do not do that.
If you have the mental fortitude to stick to learning music on a string instrument, as well as the initial capital to buy one, of course, playing music is a GREAT way to make money on the road. You're much more likely to get 20s and 50s thrown at you while playing some stupid boomer ACDC shit then you are just sitting on the exit of a highway holding up a shitty sharpie sign nobody can read anyway.

Best of luck becoming a non-larper my brother

Honestly, I wouldn’t say I even have experience, I haven’t even left my starting state yet. I want to try and be able to do 30-40 miles a day first before I go into real unfamiliar territory. I’m not even close but as long as I have enough inhalers, maybe i’ll get there in a month or two?

As for paths, I’m really disappointed. Every single “bikepacking” youtuber seems to constantly be in nature or on gravel. There’s no decaying urban centers it’s just them and birdsong and trees and greenery. I haven’t been able to find anything but normal roads filled with drivers. If I can avoid an interstate or highway I will, but a couple times it’s taken me too long to find alternate routes, and it starts getting too dark to see, and cant set up my shitty walmart tent, and so i’ve ended up bicycling on the shoulder a few times and being scared shitless every time a tractor trailer goes by at 80 mph. Even railstottrails and adventure cycling say my state has like, ONE transamerican line that goes thru the very bottom of it, but otherwise nothing. very not fun so far.

Where I stealth camp: I stole this method from a youtuber, but basically you go on google maps, you look for green areas, then you switch to satellite and see if the green areas is flat (for the tent) and isolated (so no Karens see you go in there and call the cops).

If it’s not a random forested area it’s behind shopping centers in the loading dock area. I tried sleeping in an abandoned building ONCE but there was superspiders there and I nearly cried when one jumped on my hand as i was taking the tent down. never again

If you're having trouble riding a few dozen miles on flat terrain, you ABSOLUTELY have to work on your posture (besides fitness, of course). Nigger-rigging some aerobars, or simply adding a cushion (i've taped folded-up socks to my bars and it worked well) for your elbows in the middle of your handlebars is the equivalent to adding a supercharger to a car, in terms of the speed buff. Re-arranging your gear for a smaller frontal area would help as well.
Try to be a 90 degree rotated tear drop (pointy side back), your body/wallet will thank you
