How often do you get spooked hiking in the middle of nowhere?
How well do you keep a sound mind when by yourself? Especially when spending the night in the woods?
How do you keep paranoia at bay?

I'm not sure I've ever felt paranoid in the woods. But I'm sure if you literally just keep doing it your paranoia would get better. If it doesn't then maybe camping isn't for you.

It depends, sometimes Iโ€™m in a frame of mind of just being another thing in the woods. Definitely helps not living in a country with bears or wolves. If that were the case I would build a stand in the trees every night. Sometimes I realise Its no different then at daytime but I tend to be superstitious based on my life experiences and the more I think about it the worse it gets. But if I donโ€™t think about it at all itโ€™s fine.

I do live in a country with both bear and wolves. You are legitimately the scariest thing in the wilderness. Again, this feeling of unease will pass with time I reckon.

Yeah but you guys are allowed to carry akimbo double barrelled automatic dragons breath shotgun with unregulated vents cut along the sides so the flames whip out like a blowtorch with an added drummag. I doubt Iโ€™d be scared either.

Only at night when it's super silent, I can't see, and clearly something is near me that wasn't making a sound earlier. Like, not another hiker or camper, but something that could be stalking me. I won't lie, those situations are rare but I go outdoors with a gun and just shoot in the direction of whatever made the noise, let God sort it out.

It's very easy, breathe normally and maintain awareness of your surroundings. I remember one time I found myself in the middle of some extremely dense and dark woodland, looking for my left wireless earphone, while also in the process of finding my lost tent (which was full of my stuff).

You just stop, take a deep breath, and figure things out. 5 minutes later I was back in said tent with said left earphone back in my ear.

obsessive self-preservation is a flaw of the young. You're going to die. Get used to the idea. If it helps any, you'll never know it happened.

being scared at night or in the woods is natural, you can't see properly and predators could be lurking out of sight. it is instinct to keep you safe.
i feel totally safe in the outdoors though, because there's no niggers. if sleeping in a public campsite i keep my axe and knife to hand and i always feel safe.
only time i feel unsafe is hiking in the middle of nowhere at night, i feel perfectly fine untill I see eye-shine in the distance and can't tell if it's a sheep, cow, deer ... or something else.
if I am with a group sometimes i will go and sleep by myself because they snore, if i do the above, i never feel unsafe even alone at night.

I spend alot of time in woods some people have found spooky. But honestly I've felt the opposite. I feel more comfortable in them than I do in places where other people are around. Even at night I consider them a pleasant and relaxing place to be.

CQC doesn't imply the use of a gun (you're likely thinking of CCW).
You are insecure and fixated on guns.

One time i was walking throught narrow valley with tall cliffs and there was a water stream along the way with strong current and the sound of it was echoing between the walls I couldn't hear anything but water and there i stated to constantly check my surrounding because if anything sneaked behind me i would not hear it at all.
I got so paranoid i even started to hear whispers in water echoes but im not sure.

I was in wilderness and I had been hiking for ~ 6 hours by this point and had only encounter a dog with a satellite collar who was lost and had licked my poop that I dropped beside the creek so I didn't want to touch him but he was following us and this guy comes up out of nowhere behind me and spooked the living hell out of me when he passed me on the trail (it was a narrow section with like stepping stones over mud). He takes the poopy nose dog off and promises to reunite it with its owner - he said he was like a forest service volunteer or something. Didn't see another soul on the trail.

Spooked: often. It's normal. A mouse sounds like a bear rustling through leaves. Often I think I hear something and then I point the flashlight into the woods and there's nothing. just check and see until you feel at ease
