The cheapest option would be the Flames creed quilt. I have one and it's great. I got the Large version. It's so comfy and roomy. You can zip up the foot box and clip the back together to make it into a sleeping bag. I have taken it down to 1C wearing just base layers. $100USD+gst for a quilt hard to beat.

There is also the Ice Flame version where they sewed some pad strap loops for an extra $20

NTA.. I've also recently bought several fishing items from Amazon, all Chinese clones of big name US brands. I'm fly fishing. The rods I've bought(SF and Maxx Catch) feel just as good as the Orvis and Echo rods I own. The flies are just as well tied as the ones at my local shop, but they're $6-7/dozen vs $2-3ea. I did not like the Hercules brand leaders I bought, they were weak and well below advertised line strength. But the SF ones are good. SF tippet is also good.

I've got the lanshan 1 and 2. Both the plus and pro versions. If you don't know the plus came out in 2021 they are a bit bigger and better than the old ones.

My goto is the 2 pro.

I do really like the normal lanshans. You get a very good tent for the money.

Only thing I'd do is change the guylins for better ones.

The pic is from a few years ago. It's using the lanshan 1 plus with summer inner.

A few cookware things I'd recommend is the little bbq they do.

I've used it a good 20 times now.

That's the boundless voyage Ti grill on top as the one that comes with it is rubbish.

Infact all in thatvis from ali. That's a Ti spork, Ti Long Handled spoon, small table and a camping table.

All the titanium gear is a fraction of the price.

Ive got a couple of 750ml pots, multiple types of pegs, plates, kettle and cutlery.

I have the Lanshan 1 Plus with a T shaped door.
I also bought the 4 season inner, so I can use it year round. I have taken it everywhere, even up mountains.

Things I like:
*It's weight is under 1kg with titanium stakes and polycryo ground sheet.
*small pack size
*small footprint allows you to pitch the tent in most places.
*Large vestibule area. I can fit my pack, boots, chair and table.
*The colour.

Problems:
*The tent's the inner length. When I use a 11cm thick sleep mat, I always have my feet touching one end, and there is only a few centimeters of space between my head and the inner. This a less of an issue with the Pro version which has no inner, but then you have to deal with condensation.
*Pitching can be a hassle. I always find myself fiddling around to get the inner nice and taught.
*There a gap between the fly and the ground which drafts can come in. This is especially noticeable from the front.
*The fly stretches due to rain, and condensation from the fly and touch the inner and come through.
*Included pegs are rubbish, I replaced them with titanium stakes and easton stakes.

As for the Cloud UP 1, are you choosing it because you want a tent that holds up in high winds? Naturehike has come out with a ultralight 1P tent the Star Trail EXT which weights 900 grams. I am considering buying it to replace my Lanshan for three season use. The Cloud UP 1 pro is too warm to use for summer.

Anon, the Naturehike Star trail is a good tent with good ventilation, but have you used a 1 person tent before?

This is what it looks like inside my Lanshan 1. I'm not an ultra-lighter or a through hiker, but I do long multi day hikes and wild camping so I am willing to put up with the lack of space.
The Star trail has similar floor space, but the inner is wider at the top, also the inner is less saggy becuase it is mesh and not fabric soaked in condensation from my breath.

Generally most people get 2 person tents for the extra room. I dont know your situation, but if you haven't used 1 person tent before I'd recommend laying out the size of the tents inner floor with masking tape on your living room to get an idea.

It’s coming down to either the cloud up 2, cloud peak 2, star trail 2, or mongar 2 (and all their associated UL versions, some of which arent on the naturhike site cause fuck me thats why.) And yes they do have to all be the 2P version, I am a 6 foot one large lad and I sneed the space.


I know these are all 3 season, I know, but I’m looking for something I can purchase once a year, that’ll last me while I visit multiple states.

The problem with AL, MS and GA, that I have experienced so far, is that in winter you can get 2 inches of snow and as cold as 10 F, but then in august you sit there and cook yourself like a steak walking down a highway at 96 F.


Which of these have mesh down to the ground, on the inner, to handle airflow for the heat, but also have a thicc outer layer rainfly for when it’s freezing? Weight doesn’t matter because it’ll be on the bike anyway.


Alternatively if none of them do, is there any other tent within this price range that can? I have a HARD limit of 270 bucks, so no BA/Nemo/Durston.

The Cloud Up is a clone of a Big Anges tent and the Cloud Peak is a clone of the Hilleberg Allak. Both are really a 3+ season tents, which means they are too hot to use in summer, due to having large fabric panels which reduce airflow, but are great for the other months.

The Mongar is a clone of the MSR Hubba and the Star River 2 is a clone of the Nemo Dagger.
Of the two I'd go with the Star River 2 UL, as it is a more modern design, with more interior space.

It really boils down to how often you go winter camping.
If you only go once in a while, you can reduce drafts by choosing a campsite sheltered from the wind and build a wind break out of snow. Then go for the Star River 2 UL.

If you do quite a bit of winter camping, and since weight is not an issue, go for the Cloud Peak 2. It has two vestibules, so you can open both doors to get good air flow in the summer (if it's not raining).

Naturehike has been refreshing many of it's tent designs recently, and the Cloud Peak is one of the few tents that hasn't been updated. I think it's because they made they this tent. It's called the Naturehike JIMS gear. It's a lighter version of the Cloud Peak, but I avoid tents in light colours as they let in too much light which makes it hard to sleep.

Otherwise you can buy a trekking pole tent like the Lanshan 2 or the Asta Gear Yun Chuan (clone of Durston X-Mid), and buy a 4 season inner for the tent. This is what I did with my Lanshan.

I have both mesh and fabric inners. Pic is of the mesh inner in summer with a summer sleeping bag. I cannot get the fabric inner as tight as the mesh inner, and in winter my breath condenses on the inner fabric causing it to get damp and sag towards me, but I have not gotten my sleeping bag wet so far. The Lanshan 1 has good floor space for gear, and I specifically got the Plus version over the Pro version (which has more interior space) so I could get a 4 season inner for year round use, and not have to deal with condensation. The downside of these pyramid style tents is the angled sides give you less interior space, but I never had issues with my shoulders touching the sides of the tent while sleeping.

I just got a naturehike cloud up1 to strap to the bottom of my Savotta jaakari small. I’m 6’3 and it’s pretty tight inside especially with all your gear but I tend to pack lighter. Great tent so far, worth the trade offs imo.

They are competing designs. They have the same footprint and overall dimensions, but the Star river is a little taller.

The Mongar is a symmetrical, standard tent design.
The Star River has a head and foot end. The inner is almost vertical at the head end, giving you more space.
Also there are fabric panels on the Mongars door which limits air flow. The Star river has full mesh doors.

The sleeping pad is great. My one is 65cm wide and over 200cm long. The pump sack is too small, and it takes 22-24 inflations to fill this wide-long pad. I told this to the seller and they said the passed the feedback to their technicians. The valve not standard, however I can still inflate it with my Flextail TinyX pump using the flexible adapter, pushing it inside the lip of valve, but it needs to be topped off with the pump sack to get it to the right firmness. When properly inflated there is no crinkling. This pad looks exactly like the "Hikenture R6.0" pad, but has similar construction and baffling to a Nemo sleep mat. The vertical baffles help keep you from slipping of the mat. The two pieces of foil insulation extend the entire width, and length so no cold spots. I asked the seller for the ASTM report, which said the pad the R valve was 4.7, and I think it is accurate as it kept me warm at -1C. Total weight of 630 grams.

I was just about to buy a Nordisk Oppland 2 SI for €650 when this thread inspired me to see if there was a Chinese alternative. Lo and behold, Naturehike make a similar thing (and cheekily call it the 'Opalus') for less than half the price. I'll probably get it over the real thing regardless, but are Naturehike tents similar quality to the real thing? Are there any other downsides?

Yes the "Opalus" is a clone of the Oppland.

For the new Naturehike Opalus UL series they updated the tent design and materials, so it's now made of 15D silnylon. The quality is comparable to western tents in the 200-500 dollar range.

It uses thinner fabrics compared to the SI, but that results in a much lighter weight. It is similar to the LW version.

The Flextail pillow is too expensive, and the least comfortable. It has a plastic inflatable core, which makes it feel like a balloon, it is not high enough for side sleeping, and the "ergonomic shape" does not cradle my head and the valve sucks. $20

The Bisinna pillow is a standard hollow fibre filled pillow. It is ultra light at 180 grams. It is the thinnest pillow as is compresses too much, but it is the warmest, and I like to bring it as a secondary pillow to place on top to get more height when side sleeping. $4.

The Naturehike is ok. It is the rectangular model, and I got the case/topper to go with it. The pillows sides are higher than the center to cradle the head, which is annoying when side sleeping. Also the topper did not have a pad strap, so it slips around a lot. $15

The Widesea has good height and less cradling making it good for side sleeping. However it does slide around. $3
The pillow cover/topper is from another pillow which broke after 4 years of use. The inner inflatable pillow has a similar shape to the Widesea (I bought it to use in this topper), but had a flatter top and was perfect for me. $10

I went camping yesterday with stuff largely from ali express.

Main new thing was a £15 tarp. I've been thinking i want one i can add to my lanshan 2 pro.

It was alsorts of stuff. Paracord, ti tent pegs, tent, chair, stove, ti pot etc

I was really happy with it. It rained hard at midnight. Everything under it was bone dry.

I am decked out in ozark trail gear. I know I could’ve searched and gotten all me gear shipped piece wise from aliexpress, but the small premium I do pay for ozark trail vs Ali direct I chalk up to the convenience factor of being able to get it same day. Plus Walmart buys in bulk and strong arms small suppliers so it’s really not that much more expensive. Maybe slightly lower quality on certain items. Just replying to say my Firemaple X2 is pretty solid. I got mine on sale for ~$50USD. The 1L pot is overkill for most people and boil time is negatively affected as a result, however its perfect for my use case.

I have an adapter to use propane on my isobutane threaded top mounted camp stoves. I've used both and tit works well. I also have a Coleman burner that takes butane and propane. But I've only used propane with it because it's way cheaper.

Yes. They open easily, but folding them back up us a PITA. They're also large and bulky, even when folded for storage. For a two person tent, it's a 3ft circle. It's like 3 ultralight tents in stuff sacks laying next to each other. You're not hiking anywhere with it, they're for car camping only. They're also heavy, because they use at least double the rods of a standard tent and they're bulkier because they have to withstand constant tension.

The IMCO lighter and the SOG PowerPint arrived, the gas stove is still on its way from China. The IMCO feels amazing. I do not have an authentic IMCO but the action is snappy, everything moves smoothly and the fit and finish is great. There even is a place for a spare flint, just like in the real deal.
The SOG PowerPint feels okay, QC feels similair to what you'd get from a cheaper Gerber. Not amazing but not too bad either. Apparently that is the same as what to expect to legit SOG tools as well. The knife is sharp enough and the pliers open smoothly. Overall would buy again.

this is probably the favourite bag i own desu i've been using it for over a year for hiking now. Havent used it for camping yet but im sure it would fit all of my stuff if i use a tarp, very durable especially with the abuse ive put it through but the top handle broke over time sadly. weighs around 280g

I'm using a knock off camel back bladder. I've had it for about 4 years now and used it at least 50-60 times. It has all the same fittings, mouth piece etc.. as a branded bladder but only cost me $10. I've had no leaking issues with it. It has very nice double seams and is made of nice, thick BPA free(at least they say so) plastic.

Aegismax Future 2 -18C sleeping bag.
Was warm, and I slept in just my thermal base layers at -10c.
I was actually sweating at various points during the night, and tried to open the side zips to vent heat, but my shoulders became cold.
Also is it very difficult to zip up the sides, I think mummy style bags are best with center zips.

Very smooth, almost silk like lining. I did not use the thermal sleeping bad liner I had with me. This is the "lengthened" version.

However when I first got this sleeping bag, there was a strong duck odour, which went away after airing it out in the sun for a week.

That photo shows one of my better pitches in winter.

The problem is with the solid/ 4th season inner. It doesn't stretch like the mesh fabric, so the fabric panels between the seems don't get as tight, compounded with :
*Unable to set up on flat ground, I am typically cutting a flat surface into ice and snow which further compacts and melts during the night,
*The high winds on a mountain making pitching the tent difficult.
*The large amount of condensation in winter.

However even with strong winds during the night, the tent inner never flaps and droops onto my face.
But this time I was using a -18c sleeping bag which had much more loft, and I didn't get a good pitch, it touched the sides of the tent and had condensation and ice rub off onto it.


I am using this tent as it's pyramid like structure makes it strong in wind, and it is much lighter than pole tents.

Yeah, I'm a Yuropoor and some 30-35 years ago the local jeans factory would sell what were essentially Levis without the Levis tag to the gypsies that sold clothes in the regional weekly markets.
Same cut, same material, same factory, both brand new and with minor defects (a couple skipped stitches, a crooked belt loop, etc.).

You're only looking at the 1star reviews aren't you? The ones I see with hose "discoloration" they have mold/mildew in the hose, because they did not empty and dry it after use. Most likely the case for many of the other issues. There are thousands more 5 and 4 star reviews than the 1s. An anon asked for the link to the one I had, so I gave it.

All I can give is my own personal experience with it and that has been over two years of happy use. No mold or mildew(because I clean and dry it) No chemical or plastic taste. My seals are holding strong. No breaks in the hose and the mouthpiece is working great(I don't chew on it like a sperg might).

That said, it's made in China(you're in a cheap Chinese gear thread anon) So manufacturing quality may vary.

Rec me a sleeping pad for a big guy (4u), 6'3 220lbs not fat just big and dense. The couple inflatable ones I've tried are too narrow so my arms and shoulders are on the ground, and just not enough padding so I can't really get comfy, I'm more concerned with comfort and getting a good night's sleep than compactness or light weight.

I bought a free-standing Coleman Rigel X2 almost 15 years ago for under $100 and it weighs less than 1kg.

I'm of a similar build. No specific recs, but some personal observations. I've tried both 4 and 6 inch inflatable pads and with the 4in I can still feel the bumps on the ground and my hip and/or shoulder bottom out. With the 6in, I do not. That said, my 4in is a double wide and my 6in is a single wide. I'm not sure how much that plays into things. It could be that the double wide allows for too much air displacement and it would be OK if it weren't as wide. Or it could be the extra two inches in the 6in make the difference. So, I'll say, look for a 6in single wide and you should be good.

Got for the C100+ from SJCAM if you want one that is with decent video quality, they are like 40usd and have video stabilizer at 1080p, not amazing, but close to a Hero 3 black in quality, otherwise just save up and get a used Insta360 Go for that size.
Alternatively, get a used Gopro Hero 5-8 and look for Ulanzi Quick Go mounts, they are magnetic and cost like 7$ and use typical 1/4 thread (Gopro 5-8 are all the same btw, 9 onwards changed battery and have overheat issue)
Avoid off brand cameras in general though, its just a shitshow to find a good one, some will use the same housing but the quality can be all over the place, some of these at most are for a dashcam or for a more risky shot where you don't wanna damage/lose your good one.
