I have a machete in Australia. The government are banning them with a $40,000 minimum fine and 2 years prison.

What should I do with the machete before the ban comes in? Lawful and ethical uses only. Also I'm very lazy.

I stupidly bought it to mow my small lawn with it thinking it would be cool. Yes I know I am very dumb.

Picture unrelated.

Screw it into a picture frame, it's a decorative piece now. Potentially.

Check your laws. I'd bet there's a hundred ways around that ban.
For example, the German "switchblade-ban" only requires the owner to be able to name a single purpose the knife is used for to make it legal to own. Doesn't even have to be a reason that requires a switchblade.
With how important machetes (or other long blades) are for hunting and farming, I'd expect there to be similar provision in your laws.

Nothing
Permissible Uses
Machetes are generally allowed for legitimate purposes such as:

Agricultural work
Horticulture
Camping and other recreational activities
Industrial use
It is crucial to use a machete within the constraints of the law to avoid legal issues.
Or put it in a glass cabinet and make it blunt.

I truly wish for an interesting existence for those above me.

Use it on the people banning them. I bet the penalty is lower. Just tell them you're 20% abbo on your mum's side and show up to court drunk

Machetes are really just sharpened pieces of metal though. Anyone can make one. Trying to ban them is like banning clubs. Anything is a club.

Just because they're banned doesn't mean you can't have them, what are they gonna do, shoot you? You can have weapons if you can show they are part of a collection, as long as they aren't spring loaded I believe.

OP literally told you in the post what they are going to do. Reading comprehension is not your strong suit.
