My lawn got a variety of grasses in it, including blue eyed grass which is so cool. Not a lot of it but I'm trying to avoid some while mowing so it can spread. But I have to cut down the hawkweed flowers before they go to seed. Fucking hawkweed just makes mats of itself.

Some leaves (walnut, oak, chest nut and probably some others) will poison the soil, to give their own seedlings better chances.
Most leaves will generate acidic hummus, which many plants don't deal well with, while others (blueberries, for example) require it. Concentrating that leaf hummus where you need it makes sense.

1) it looks like shit
2) some trees fuck up the soil whether that's through acidity like oak trees or actually put toxins in the ground like walnut trees. black walnut especially, and if you have a dog the walnuts will absolutely give your dog the shits.
3) as leaves decompose they fuck up the nitrogen levels which in turns makes other plants not grow as well if you don't up the nitrogen with fertilizer or decent compost. if you're going to leave them, actually leave them on the surface don't bury them.

Some leaves take forever to decay and harbor rodents.

Me personally I don't care whether it's native or not. If it can handle mowing and stays green I don't care. My lawn is a mix of grass, clover, dandelions, plantains, ground ivy, and all sorts of other shit. I don't use any herbicides and I have a shit ton of bugs and wildlife on my property.

Clover, onions, dandelions and wild strawberries make up my lawn. I just mow the leaves into tiny bits, seems to work fine.
The bees especially seem to love the clover.
