Anyone else think people are way too pussy about ticks? Like just check for them when you are done and pull them off. No need for gross spray.

>when you are done
But im out all day brushing trail and i cant stop to check often and quick enough to get through. Even if i check for them in camp theres still a risk some got into my gear and are in the tent and while i can find and pull off ones that manage to bite that day or the next the bites last long as fuck. Its only a matter of time before i have to pull one off my balls or dick and i think i have a right to be scared of it

I have one friend who died from alpha gal and I know at least 6 people who have it currently. They'll have to carry an epi-pen for years. It's still not as bad as lime disease though; that shit fucks up your body for life and it's painful. I'm not fucking around with that shit; I treat all of my hiking gear with permethrin.

You definitely should spray for them if you're going into a tick heavy are in season, just because they can give you some really knarly diseases if you get very unlucky. I'd rather spray once, and then check myself when I get home than become allergic to red meat or get Lyme disease.

You probably won't get sick, even if you find a few on you, especially if you catch the fuckers quickly, but never a bad idea to minimize the risk.

Also all ticks are Jews. Very important to keep that in mind. It might be a little blood now, but if you tolerate them, you'll be reading from the Torah soon enough..

t. lives in lyme country.
Not a gamble I'm trying to take. Alpha gal is also supposedly spreading north. Ticks are fucking retarded and there is no reason not to take basic prevention measures

>be me
>go out several times per week (jogging, hiking, working my gardens)
>never take measures against ticks beyond wearing long pants + boots
>never had a tick
>never even saw a tick that wasn't on a sick animal
Yet people still claim the area I live in has the highest concentration of ticks north of the alps. Same faggots who claim that the single tiger mosquito found near the rhine makes malaria endemic in all of Germany...

I've literally never had a tick bite, I've seen them crawl on my bag or clothes
walked through bracken that was 6 feet tall
wear shorts, often commando
I think they must not like me for some reason, and I'm okay with that
either that or the populations where I live are massively overblown

bacteria that goes from the blood to the bones then stays there, every now and again your immune system kills as much of it as it can, the dead cells then poison your blood, effectively gives you brain damage and makes you suspectible to lots of other illnesses because your immune system is overwhelmed

Khaki pants (long preferably) bic lighter. Smoke em when you see them crawling up your legs. Blousing your socks/pant legs can help. Ohio here. Our ticks deer ticks are a bit larger than say Kentucky ticks etc.

Good luck.

I live in and grew up in rural Appalachia so I can walk through a wooded area and come out the other side with several ticks on each leg. You just flick them off and keep moving and then check yourself at the end of the day, no biggie.
