All of my shitty Walmart/Amazon starter gear is falling apart from wear and tear. What's the next step up without paying 300 dollars for a tent?

REI's Dome series is pretty good for summer camping. If you want to save a lot of money you can just get a tarp and some stakes and paracord.

Milsurp. Similar price to amazon stuff, but will last much longer. A 1-2 person US army tent should be around 150€ in europe, and probably cheaper in the US. Or take the tarp pill and get a silnylon tarp (for example, mine is ex UK army and was 30€).
For packs, you can't beat the old Alice packs, or any of it's molle-compatible variants (the cheapest being a medium Molle pack on an Alice frame).
For sleeping bags, Carinthia def 4 + Tropen in EU, or MSS in in the US.
Most other gear (cooking vessels, drinking bottles, stoves, flashlights etc) the chink shit is good enough.

get a job at a outdoors store, even part time and you will get a 25% to 35% discount on stuff. The store I work at even holds "employee sales" where our discount stacks onto the items already marked down. those discounts can be from 50% 80%. Ive got great gear that normally would have been out of my price range. Also the brands like Osprey, Patagonia, etc come with a life time warranty no matter what, so while pricey sometimes, you only have to buy them once. think of the whole "it's expensive to be poor" idea.
