Why did they totally delete the community content section (user submitted trail recordings database), without warning? I miss it so much.
Yes, I did email them to complain and they admitted they yeeted it, wouldn't say why, and told me my comments would be considered for future versions (it's never coming back).

They also got rid of your ability to look at photos on the mobile app which is stupid cuz it was a great way to figure out where exactly views are.

Probably so they could scrape the data and then later offer it as a premium paid subscription

They just added some sort of regional map download so you can download all "curated" trails in a broader area - which was a previous annoyance because if you go to a place and there's no reception you can't see which trails are nearby or the map for the trail you are on if you didn't download it specifically - but I think they deleted community content to prevent people from trespassing or doing unofficial routes because a lot of the community content was people walking on private land they either owned or had access to (though I did find an interesting example of a private land waterfall where it looks like the person was just a resident of a nearby town and didn't care it was private - I know the land is owned by a logging conglomerate, not an individual)

I used community content to find all sorts of "lesser" trails that usually had some sort of issue with the trail access or the trail being in terrible shape/abandoned but there's all sorts of cool stuff that doesn't exist in the "curated" trails that is now just gone for good. I wish I saved it all. If you know the NAME of the recording they are indexed by search engines so if you search the right name the person saved it under you can find it still, its not deleted, they just prevented you from being able to search for it on the map, I think you can still look up individuals and see which recordings they have saved.

No, I guess you are right. Fuck.

AllTrails is debuting a new 'premium' membership level called Peak in June 2025.

Priced at $79.99 a year, it includes everything you get with the Plus plan, along with exclusive access to arguably the three most powerful new tools: Custom Routes, advanced Trail Condition reports and Community Heatmaps.

And I guarantee that still won't be restoring access to the full map-searchable database of recordings.
And they took away ALL access to topo maps in app about a year or two ago without saying a word as well.

I like being able to point my phone on trail and see which way the trail goes cuz some forests are just unmarked mazes of intersecting trails.
