I have some spooky lakes nearby, and lake related lore.
One of the lakes is rumored to be bottomless. Its in a mountain valley, and is so deep in places no diver has ever gone to the bottom. The water looks black, just darkness. The valley is known for its harsh weather and people die there all the time from mudslides and avalanches. I don't like swimming in it because its always ice cold and it freaks me out.
Another much larger nearby lake is less intimidating. But my towns designated swimming area is right above the potable water intake pipe for the water treatment plant. In the fall you can see leaves floating on the surface bunch up above the intake and form and big floating leaf circle. I'm sure it has a wide grate to prevent anyone from getting stuck while swimming, and its probably too deep for most people to freedive, but it makes me uneasy swimming above it.
Also, I have a personal superstition that if a tourist drowns in the big lake, it will bring good luck for the following year. But if no tourist drowns during the swimming season, bad luck is coming.
What spooky lakes do you visit? Share lake lore.

The real one is in better, because it'll show you just how scary diving accidents can be. I don't fuck around with any underwater stuff.

Baikal is an iconic spooky lake. In my locale it's gotta be Summit Lake. It's a steep canyon that got blocked off by geological nonsense at some point. A helicopter crashed in it back in the 90's and was never found.

People are getting ready for intergalactic contact in the year 2027, so something huge and catastrophic - or multiple huge catastrophes - are about to happen on this planet. You cannot detonate a lot of nukes and expect the planet not to react to it.
