I have a “Guide Gear”. It’s a Yeti knockoff that was hundreds cheaper despite being made in the USA instead of the Philippines like a real Yeti. It’s really only worth the weight if you are going to be /out/ for more than a weekend, but it’s really nice to have it when I’m doing Voyageurs NP or fishing for stream trout in the 4wd or horse only accessible parts of Idaho. I end up bringing it on weekend stuff because I don’t want to have to store 2 60l coolers, but I do miss my old cheapie red and white when I’m lugging it in and out of a canoe or whatever.

If you don't want to go $$$bougie, look for a "marine cooler." They have slightly higher R values than regular coolers, and are usually all white.

If you need a cooler to go /out/ you might as well stay /in/

The best ice chests are the ones you find on the side of the road, they're free and super easy to fix

I use a 54qt RTIC at work (on the road construction Mon-Thu) and it keeps everything inside cold for 4 days of summer heat so that's good enough for me.
I use four large rigid reusable ice packs and usually freeze half of my water bottles.

You WILL buy a disposable styrofoam cooler. You WILL punt the fuck out of it when you're done and leave the shrapnel at your camp site.

I got a Lifetime 48 qt cooler. It's made in America. Supposedly there's these magical Yeti coolers that keep everything cool for days and days but I dunno if that's real and they certainly cost twice the price. I paid 150 for mine. It's pretty nice, it has handles, a drain spout that screws off and two latches. If you were like a family or even have 2 people and bring a lot of food you might want something bigger, with these rotomolded coolers the insulation takes up a lot of space, but for one person it's perfect.

I used rewards points from work to buy a $480 Yeti
I also won a Yeti knockoff cooler, forgot the brand name.
I took both out on a weekend trip, the Yeti held ice for a week after, the knockoff couldn't hold ice for 3 days.
Personally, I would never spend that much money on a cooler, but the Yeti is GOAT.
