>fishing spot near my childhood home in upstate New York
>go back there at 26 while visiting the ‘rents
>fish for not even three hours
>get home
>NINE FUCKING TICKS ON ME
>it’s been days and I’ve taken antibiotics and yet I still have a huge red itchy bump from where I pulled one off. I thought my mom was crazy about her fear of Lyle’s disease but fuck this, unless drastic measures I will have to forgo my plans of buying a cabin in the Catskills and probably leave the east coast altogether. It’s actually over

make sure to always check your balls for ticks, they'll unironically hide there & be hard to see
also take a shower after every /out/ing, ticks hate the soapy water, it also helps remove any poison ivy you might have accrued too
and keychain tick tools are super useful, even if you don't keep them on a keychain, a separate carabiner works great

I had them in my hair, armpits, back, legs, shoes, and just crawling around my floor. But on the bright side I’m immune to poison ivy

What’s the best way to avoid ticks in the North East in Autumn? Does a hat, long sleeves, and pants stuffed into socks help?

I've had Lyme's for about 3 years now and I'm still fine and hiking. I'm pretty sure the panic is just FUD.

i use the ProTick Remedy ones
they work fine unless its a really small tick, then i just use the tweezers in my swiss army knife

I used to pull off triple digit amounts of ticks every single day when innawoods in Kentucky

No signs of lyme.

This map suggests Kentucky will have lyme coming through west virginia strongly within 10 years, sad

they go for blood, I just use a lighter

Grew up playing in the woods every day in North Alabama and Southern Tennessee. Never seen a lonestar tick anywhere until this year. I have found 10 on me so far in 2025. Just got my 2nd bite from one. First one didnt give me alpha gal. Pray that the one i got yesterday doesnt either. Good thing i love fishing, bad thing the fish and waters are so horribly poisoned

if you're like me and have hairy ass legs you can sense them very easily when they crawl through your hair. I almost never get bit because of this.

When did lyme disease become so common? I swear 10-15 years ago it was super rare to catch it but now every tick seems to be carrying lyme disease.
