Changing building regulations/codes, using new or alternative building materials, selling off the largest and least used ranches, and just better organization in general will solve the "housing crisis". There might be abandoned mines and things but not working ones and they cannot give new leases or permits or anything jn wilderness. First of all OP is a rage baiter. The original bill has nothing to do with 15 minute cities.
Secondly selling off public land miles from existing cities does not create more dense cities. The bill Lee put forth only stipulates it be used for housing, not the kind of housing. Local zoning laws and other local bullshit gets completely in the way of that. Also the bill would block sale of this land for commercial use outside of a small % for logging and oil, which means no stores or businesses lmao.
If you want to fix the problem you need to go after existing cities and their horrible zoning laws.
