I use one of those wide brim straw hats women use in summer and i'm tired of pretending they aren't good or that they are gay to use on men.

Just kidding OP. Anything that can protect you from the sun is good. Iโ€™ve known too many people that have cancerous cells cut off their skin lately.

They're the best value. If you go with other options/materials you're caught in a trap because most materials can't go up to a 4 inch brim before they sag and flop around.
The only way short brim would work ideally is with a brim that tilts down at the perfect angle to avoid blocking eyesight but long enough for coverage. These bucket hats don't exist though.
A baseball cap is 3 inches for the brim length and I've determined that's the minimum you'd want, but realistically 3 and a half or more is much better. Even baseball caps are too short in the length now as they've adopted more sleek fits and looks. The German wool skip cap from ww2 is a good wide brim and the duckbill hats of old and some 1980s trucker hats have a good length.
The trick with a cloth hat holding it's shape is with a steel wire around the brim or foam in it.
For my job I currently use the Tilley airflo series. $$ but a lifetime guarantee.
If you want the more traditional option, get a felt hat. Akubras prob the best option. I think they use rabbit felt. Their sombrero model has a nice wide brim. You'll want to steam it though to shape it.

i was just in wal-mart in the women's hat section trying to find a paper straw panama hat for gardening. some guy, who was inexplicably also in the women's clothing section, informed me that they sell men's hats. so i bought some men's ozark trail shit. it does the job. i'll probably buy this hat with a ponytail slot >>2826729 because my hair is well over 2 feet long. i'll also continue taking women's advice because (hot take alert) i find them sexually attractive.

If your straw hat is floppy you're a faggot, but the straw farmer hat is the most utilitarian hats ever conceived. Like socks and sandals, you wear it for comfort, not to win a fashion contest. That said, if I see a man wearing one of those floppy hats I'll punch you in the dick myself.

I used to be one of those people that loved to have a good tan. Moved to the tropics and thru my own stupidity burned myself so bad that I couldnโ€™t wear a shirt for a week. I just donโ€™t play around anymore. Itโ€™s not worth it.

I feel the same about these sunglasses old people wear. They fit over my glasses and if I lose them they're ten bucks.

You won't do shit pussy. Also the floppy is the best part since you can reshape it to block the sun in just the right way.

You know they make them for men, right? If you cannot find a manly one, just use a sombrero or rice farmer special.

For me, it's a boonie hat I can get wet and let it cool and drip water on me. I like being able to bend the rim to keep the sun out of my eyes while driving too. It also has the benefit of being stylin'

I have something like picrel but with holes on the side. Palm leaf, so very breathable, and wide brim. I only ever use it when im outside and relatively stationary (like in the garden or fishing). A regular straw cowboy hat is good for more mobile activities like hiking and if you dont want to be mistaken for a Mexican

I tested out the sunday afternon adventure hat this summer, really good imo. Helps keeping cool and preventing sum damage. Wasnt able to test it out above treelines, which is where Id like to see if the wind becomes an issue, and if something like the OR sun runner cap with its attachment would be better. Only issue I see with it is that its large and a bit difficult to put away compared to a cap. I dont really care if it looks goofy. Function over fashion.

I live in Florida and they are absolutely indispensable. Hell, the traditional cowboy hat of the old Florida crackers is a straw hat. Rock that shit.

Plan on shaving it when I get home this Saturday and its back to work. Ive had 3.5 weeks of vacation - been out hiking on a off, and I forgot a razor. I grew it out last year, together with my hair. But I didnt like how old I looked. I dont exactly have the best beard genes, but I have very thick curly hair, which leads to dry irritated scalp. So I try to keep it short and clean shaven, at least until the Norwood gods take me.

I really need to get a normal straw cowboy hat myself. I've got a loose weave one that's great for yard work etc. (pic related) but it's a bit too "rock and roll" and a vintage Stetson that's great for formal wear but is very fragile and has an undersized brim by modern standards (I think it's 3 1/2" instead of the more popular 4 1/2"), but I really want something for casual wear and /out/ stuff.
