External frames are better than modern packs.

It's more comfortable and I can carry more stuff.

Simple as.

Correct. The advantage of an external fram placing the weight high up is also an disadvantages when it comes to balance. It becomes top heavy and wobbly when you're leaning forward, like you do when climbing. The internal frame with its more evenly distributed weight makes them more stable and suitable for climbing and mountaineering. Of course everyone want to be like the cool guys climbing big mountains and wants to wear the cool new gear, and so internal frames became the new rage.
The external frame was seen as old and bulky, harder to travel with on planes. Soon people forgot what the fuck an old frame pack is good for.

In the meantime the manufacturers released new technical backpacks with more advanced and adjustable carry systems, trying to figure out how to make these things carry heavy weights comfortably.
With time, some people figured it would be easier to just carry as little stuff as possible. No need to have a backpack that can carry heavy weights properly if you don't carry heavy weights to begin with!

You should have seen the posts on /out/ from 10 years ago, quite opposite of these replies.

Wont be long before you gents start batoning and wearing boots for hikes.

I am proud of /out/ for growing up.

/out/ 10 years ago was ultralight faggotry while being autistic about using specialized tools, it was sad. External frames were far too manly for them.

I used to be a big fan of external frames and I still have a cache hauler for durr huntan. But as I've gotten older and fatter (6'0", 195#) the percentage of the weight I can carry on my hips without it slipping has decreased. I used to carry almost all the weight on my hips and the shoulder straps practically floated. Becoming an oldfag has made internal frame packs more comfortable.

If you're using an external frame and not doing an expedition you are mentally ill, a larper, or just retarded and don't know how to pack properly

Tactical Tailor M-Alice pack. All you'll ever need.
Or just a standard MilSurp Alice pack. The modern MOLLE Ruck sucks dick, my plastic frame is broke in 2 places, meanwhile my Alice has survived years of abuse and is way more comfy.

This website is frequented mostly by male cat owners, not surprising that half the threads are shit like this
