Google says a couple hours only, but I'm pretty sure I could get away with at least 24 hours. I don't think I would want to push it more than that.
Eggs are washed here in the states. Washing the Eggs means they have to be refrigerated, unlike Europe, where they're shelf-stable because they're untreated.
By the way, you don't really need an Egg holder anyway. You can put your Eggs in a glass crush-proof jar and then surround them with flour, any sort of grain, or paper towels.
As an extra bonus, you can pre-mix some baking powder and salt into your flour and then use that to cook Bannock. Then you've got a full meal in a jar!
But really, the endgame here, if you're really a backpacker, is powdered Eggs. They're not as tasty but they're way more convenient and keep forever.
