Is it okay if I carry around pepper spray around everywhere I go? I've started going out and I'm always scared someone will attack, especially when I'm out there hiking alone, I'm scared I'll get ambushed and murdered in the woods by some junkie. Anyone else carry pepper spray everywhere?

As Samuel colt Glock rpg launcher Lockheed martin always says, 9 for the hoods 10 for the woods. Unless you got a big ol dingaling (packing naturally) you gotta be packing in the woods.

And no I don't carry it everywhere but I stay strapped with the bear spray in the woods

If you can comfortably stick a can of pepper spray to your belt or mag pocket for quick access then sure, it's smart to carry pepper spray. But I suggest you always pair it with a knife and/or a gun, which you should know is the number 1 rule when going out.

Why would it not be ok (if not illegal)? Works great, easy to carry, not dangerous in any way. Personally I don't carry pepper spray because I feel relatively safe. No bears, few (and shy) wolves, two legged predators mostly stay innacity. I probably should though, you never know what happens.
>>2828632
Then you should. Pepper spray is the best tool of self defence europeans have access to.

>Is it okay if I carry around pepper spray around everywhere I go?
epends on local laws.

I'd recommend against it though: My sister did carry pepper spray for a while, until she got old enough to legally carry a proper weapon. Always replaced the cans when the "use-before" date was up. The last can, I tried to use for discouraging rats from getting into our parent's house's walls. That can, which was about a year away from the best-before date at the time, barely had 30cm or jet instead of the 3-5m it advertised. From other people, I've heard similar things. Simply put, the cans lose pressure when they get hot (from excess pressure overcoming the seal) or cold (from the seal shrinking, and no longer staying tight). In practice, that means that carrying them /out/ makes them useless quickly.

If you're limited to irritants for whatever reason, get pyrotechnical irritants. Piexon Guardian Angel, JPX Jet Protector, or irritant "blanks" for whatever gun you can carry. My goto is a 9mm RK revolver, for example (with a knife, cause I'm not retarded... The pepper is only for wild animals).

>I'm scared I'll get ambushed
No weapon will protect you from an ambush, unless you're a. willing to kill everybody who approaches you and b. are only in areas with no cover a sniper could hide behind.
But let's face it, chances are that no one will "ambush and murder" you. Even if someone wants to attack you, they'll most likely be after money or sex, meaning they'll come close and try to force you into obeying without killing you (right away, at least). At that point, a knife is most effective, a gun is a close second, and pepperspray is far off, near the end of the list.

Pepper spray + swim googles + baseball bat + piss bandana wrapped around mouth (to filter and neutralize pepper spray blowback) = ultimate non-firearm personal defense.

If you're scared of blowing your brains out but still want to protect yourself then keep these items on hand! You can beat the shit out of people way stronger than you while they're totally helpless and can't breathe if you just have this stuff with you.

I just use my good old mp3-player in situations when I'm scared. Works like a charm in the woods and in the city. With weapons ready to use even if only for self defence I think I'd seem weird to others and maybe more likely to attract trouble + I'll forget them every now and then and would probably feel extra scared as soon as I realize which again would make me look weird.

Kek, summed up 90% of nogunz in one post.
Pepper spray doesn't do much, though. It makes your eyes tear up and your nose hurtand swell mostly shut, but you can easily power through it, breathe through your mouth, and still kick ass.
It's only good against animals and cowards, who'll flee the moment they're in pain, or to block someone's vision while you escape.

What is the point of carrying pepper spray? Just carry a gun. If they are legitimately threatening your life, you'd be better of killing them so they cant sue you in civil court. If you use pepper spray in a context where you couldn't use lethal, I'd imagine they would try to play the victim and sue you for assaulting them.

Carry both. I have been in a situation where I would have pepper sprayed someone, but only had a gun so just went back to my car and locked the doors to make sure I'd be ok to use it.
I had an aggressive African American walking towards me talking like he was going to attack me, but I also had drank a little and was high so needed to have a rock solid case because shooting him the cops would 100% be involved and talking to me.

That can was sabre red, iirc. not exactly disreputable. ~40°C summers and -25°C winters will make any pressurized container leak.

Pepper spray is a good option for 2 legged issues. Bear spray is the 4 legged solution but unless you are in bear country I wouldn't necessarily carry it always. A small pepper spray is easy though and can be clipped anywhere. Buy from a reputable source, no shitty gas station knock offs, and ideally get a neutral water trainer to practice with especially if you plan to dig it out of a pocket. The good part too is that even good ones are nearly disposable, a 3 pack from POM is something like 36 bucks. If you ever bring it somewhere you can't have it like a concert just trash it. I keep one on my bike, on my keys, and have a spare or two to hand to friends and family. Pepper spray also is a good option because while you still need to treat it as a use of force it's typically far more forgivable to pepper spray someone than stab or shoot them. Out of all the less lethal options it's relatively safe.

The other option I would strongly consider, even less lethal than pepper spray, is a very strong flashlight. Doesn't need many fancy options, just something reliable and bright. At distance it's a great way to be aware of your surrounding and it should be bright enough that even in daylight it's too bright for someone to look at it head on. Nothing gets someone to stop what they are doing, be half blind, and reflexively shield their eyes like 1000+lumens to the face and importantly that's something you can do without permanently injuring anyone. It will get you information on whats going on and usually provides valuable seconds to decide on the next action. Possession more forgivable than spray even.

You've never been in court, have you? If you deliberately choose a less-lethal option (like the anon above with pepper-spray and gun), they'll spin it as you knowing that there was no real danger. If you just use pepper and run, they'll claim you could have ran either way, if you spray and attack, they'll claim that you were looking for an excuse to use violence. Either way, you'll end up having to pay the attacker for the "suffering", and probably get fined or jailed for assault.
On the other hand, if you use a lethal weapon and end up killing, as long as you were acting in legit self-defense (or there's no witnesses or cameras), it's easy to argue that.

From my own experience, a relative of mine almost had to go on trial for SLAPPING a rapefugee (literally, that afghan had a prior conviction for rape) who was trying to pull her into a backalley. Even though she only strck until she broke free, then called the cops the moment she was far enough away. The aquaintance who ended up getting into a fight with that afghan and stabbing him got selfdefense without ever seeing a judge - the prosecution just checked if there were witnesses, found none, and had to accept that they couldn't disprove his "he turned aggressive, I feared for my life, and happened to have a pocket knife" narrative.

Not saying you should kill people randomly, but if things are bad enough to permit violence, don't hold yourself back.

Worst thing that can happen to you if you use pepper spray is a slap on the wrist. I'll chance that over killing someone and going to prison for a long time because the judge hates my face.
