Every single summer Arizona hits 50-52C in its low desert along the Colorado river, and every single winter it hits -30C (in 4 separate locations). This range is greater than the all time record high and low recorded in Australia in the last 150 years. Six separate macro regions in AZ receive more than 3.5m (140 in) of average winter snowfall, around 3 of these regions are a much larger land area that receives at least 1.27m (50 in), these regions total over 5,000 sq miles (12,950 sq km), an area larger than the Snowy Mountains.
Arizona has at least 210 geologically and geographically recognized mountain ranges, with a minimum of 7,515 peaks using the US mountaineering standard of 91m prominence, this is the 3rd highest in the USA. It is estimated that many dozens more unnamed peaks are not cataloged still. It is possible to drive 300 miles (480 km) one way in Arizona never dropping below 1830m (6,000 ft) elevation, even at this elevation AZ's highest peak still has another 1800m to go. Twelve of AZ's 15 counties has peaks with a minimum of 3,280 ft (1 km) of technical prominence, AZ's highest vertical relief peak has roughly 7,930 ft of vertical relief within 10 nm (18.5 km).
