Is this one of the hobbies where people can't actually be bothered to learn anything about it?
The other day at the lake I met a guy and we started talking. Some of the dumb shit he said was that snakehead are a type of carp and that they can fly. He was then surprised when I told him that bass are edible because they are a type of sunfish.

I've heard so much dumb shit over the years that I don't even bother correcting them.

It's a hobby for men akin to mowing the lawn except when mowing you actually accomplish something. It gives them time to sit and think away from their busy stressful lives or families, but if they aren't a thinking man then there's nothing to think about while doing these hobbies so the actual act of fishing or mowing is cathartic and comforting because it has clearly defined actions to be preformed and there is no real thinking involved at all.

Like playing a video game that requires no thinking but for boomers

BTW I had a very good conversation with a young black guy and a 12 year old kid yesterday. They knew their shit and gave me a ton of tips about the spot I was at.
