Thinking about getting some soft water bottles which can be folded up for storage purposes as I also want them to be good for /trv/. But I am open to other bottle if someone can recommend any? I have a foldable bladder for camelpaks already. But its too big and annoying for every day use

i have a 6L one MSR one i use for canoe trips, and a Camelbak i used for a while but pretty much abandoned, i dont really see a reason for a bladder style container is its less the a liter, and if its over a liter its awkward to drink straight from, but, go for it OP, see if you like it

why are you above using a regular 500ml bottle? everything you are probably carrying has a water bottle holder. if you're overcomplicating something as simple as carrying water NGMI

All of my CamelBak bladders have sprouted leaks over the years. I like their packs, especially for biking, but I've never seen any of their bladders hold up to repeated use.

How much better are these compared to regular canteens? Hard to justify $15 each when you can get surplus ones with NBC caps pre-seasoned for $5 each

I have two of them from my one backpack i bought. I've tried them out. They are okay. Getting the last few sips out of them is kind of annoying with how they work. Also once you start drinking a lot of it they tend to easily fall deep in whatever you put it in. Alot of backpacks designed for them have like zipties, etc to help keep the top stable for that reason.

honestly i'm not even sure if they are lighter than a smartwater bottle. Their main benefit is for people who need to drink while running (which technically you can do on smart water bottles, but once you have to switch to the next you have to fool around with switching over the lids)

If you want to try a new water bottle buy one and form your own opinion. For gear under like a hundred dollars it's a waste of time asking about it. Watch some youtube reviews at the most.

yea the bladder i have came with a back i bought, some older variation of the motherload, love the pack, never really found much use for the bladder, nice to have in the gear pile i guess

i also forgot to mention i have the 6L MSR hooked up with a Sawyer and use it mainly for gravity filtering when i empty the water i brought in with me

i like the two different size fill holes and the little spout it has

A brand of bottled water frequently sold at airports but also available at a gas station near you. Its large, smooth bottle makes it a great choice for many situations.

If you're just using the bottles for /out/, forget about the folding ones. They're unreliable, and make water taste like shit. Better get a single stainless canteen, and a filter to refill it on the trail.

If you really want something that folds up, I've heard good things about source. Most importantly, they have an adapter that fit's the sawyer filters, so you can refill the bladder without having to take of your pack (and get your sweaty back exposed to the air, which really sucks).
I'm sticking with a canteen on the hip though, so no direct experience here.

I don't see the appeal of gravity setups over just using sawyer's squeeze filter. Gravity seems fine when at a camp, but not if i'm mid hike and quickly just gathering water.

Get one that can fit a water filter, or comes with one. Its super handy.
Also great for winter use, as you can keep it in your inner jacket pocket to prevent your water fron freezing.
