How do you guys feel about the reintroduction of grizzly bears into the North Cascades? They basically want the entire NE Washington down to I-90 to be grizzly land again and this has caused concerns with locals who have fought against it (which is why it hasn't happened just yet).

they did this in yellowstone decades ago and the bears ended up wandering over the decades into western/northern montana, eastern Idaho, and basically the rest of western Wyoming.

We need them for the ecosystem, and that was part of their original habitat.
>>2830095
Definitely, same for the wolves and we need to move towards lab grown meat because the farmers will bitch about their cattle being killed, and they'll kill them.

a certain type of people read the story about how they introduced wolves to yellowstone to restore the ecosystem on reddit and think it applies to every situation

Bullshit. They Never reintroduced Grizzlies to Yellowstone. There was always a population in the greater yellowstone ecosystem. Its rebounded from about 200 bears in the 70s to about 1000 in the greater area today.

>the bears ended up wandering over the decades into western/northern montana
This is also completely false. The northern continental divide ecosystem around GlacierNP has also always had a population of Griz and in fact the 2 populations are so seperate that they are worried about in breeding and actively moving bears between the popualtions to promote genetic diversity. Griz dont roam as much as wolves

Good job skippy! IN GENERAL, griz do not disperse as much as wolves which is why the 2 populations are not inter-mingling. If they did, you would have griz back in CA just like wolves that are now there.

I don't like it personally, I think they should let the Grizzy just spread naturally from wherever the fuck they are at the moment, and stop trying to control nature.

https://www.hcn.org/articles/bears-in-the-northern-rockies-grizzly-bears-are-on-the-move/
> Yellowstone’s grizzlies have tripled their range in recent decades and are now moving north out of the national park. Meanwhile, grizzlies in the Northern Continental Divide recovery zone are heading south. The populations are now only about 50 miles apart, the closest they’ve been in more than a century. Scientists expect that the bears will join up in less than a decade — two islands becoming a continent.
They do roam and they w ill intermingle within the next 10 years.

>They do roam
never said they didnt. Just not as much or as far as wolves. They also dont breed as fast. Wolves have returned to California only 30yrs after reintroduction in Yellowstone. The 2 griz populations have have always been there but havent connected yet in "more than a century" despite being relatively close.
