Has anyone made sumac lemonade? I am going to try it, there's lots of staghorn sumac around me, the nearest is under some power lines down the street, in the utility easement. It's looking like picrel now so I think about the right time to take some, or by next weekend.

I guess it depends heavily on region and weather when is the best time to pick them but I'll just give it a try, and maybe again later.

Example recipe (there are many but I like this because it's simple) https://freshflavorful.com/foraged-pink-staghorn-sumac-lemonade/

yes, taste the flowers before picking to make sure they have strong flavor

soak in cold water, strain, and then add sugar to taste

make sure you dont harvest the berries after a rain, the rain will wash away the tart flavor you're looking for

It rained pretty hard a few days ago, does it come back after a dry period? This week forecast has no rain until the weekend.

Nevertheless, I won't let these go to waste, steeping overnight in the fridge to extract as much flavor as possible.
