Who else here has autumn as their fave season?
>September is perfect weather wise. Not too hot, not too cold, never any extremes in September where I'm from. Sun sets at a good time not too early, not too late

I like it, but I have done a bunch of hikes that ended up getting dark near the end - so the daylight issue does become a thing. I've never really tried harder, expedition-type hiking in winter so this will be an experiment for me.

Fall is clearly the best /out/ season, at least in Ontario.

Late spring and early summer for me. Southern OR; so it’s still relatively dry, longer days, not too hot etc.
Autumn would be better if not for the endless rain (or if the trees changed color)

I'm with you OP. The air getting cool and crisp in the fall feels perfect. It's the most nostalgic season for me by far.
In my head, it's kind of like the real New Year too.
I mean, I associate the calendar "new year" as starting in Jan, but for most of my life, major life changes happened around September: new school years, moved to totally new places a few times in September, started some a couple of relationships around September. Just the usual time of year that I'm starting a new chapter in life.
There's also a relief of summer being over where I live now (New England). I like summer, but here it's so seasonal that it's go, go, go all summer and you're exhausted by the end of it.

At least here in September the days aren't short, sun starts setting at 7 and it's dark by 8 and that's fine by me. Early October is when it gets brutal due to daylight savings so its setting at 6 and dark by 7. Then November it really starts to hit and its dark by 6.

There's definitely a toned downness to September that I like.

It used to be my favorite when I lived in Georgia. Summers are hot and humid and while the winters aren't harsh, it's still cold and bland outside. Spring could be nice but the pollen is insane. Even if you don't have allergies, it coats everything. You can't open your window to enjoy the fresh spring air because it comes with a yellow cloud that gets into everything. That leaves autumn to pick up the crown.
Now that I live in the Midwest, the pollen isn't bad and by the time spring rolls around, I have cabin fever and am looking forward to getting out. Autumn is nice here and provides some relief from the summer heat but that heat isn't really all the bad nor does it last very long.

I prefer early autumn to late autumn. When the weather's not too bad. It's not exactly sweater weather but not exactly short sleeve weather either. Then sometimes there's that crisp chill in the air.

crowded tourist hell, went there last year, was a mistake, got blasted by the jeet smell until i fucked off to an expert hike
but it was still crowdedish in town on return
im trying to get out to sugarloaf ME that time of year because i love how empty it is except march and april, but it may be crowded by leafers, Ive never tried it

It's the season for baking potatoes in the campfire, picking apples, tasting this year's plum brandy, brewing good tea, wearing hoodies, and enjoying long shadows, mud, fog, and golden leaves.

September was nice but now it's getting chilly in the morning. I leave my house at 6am to hit the trail by 8. I'm starting to have to bring extra layers that become useless an hour in as my body and the air both warm up.

i love autumn, it's my favorite season, but i spend a lot of time /out/ in the mountains and alpine autumn feels even shorter than alpine spring... like a week or two lol. it gets a lot harder having to worry about snow on roads and avvy danger. i'd like to do an autumn or early winter overnight this year anyway, i'll probably just stick to a lower elevation even though my gear should be good down to 10F or so.

For me any additional layers are too much like 10 minutes in lol, assuming I'm gaining elevation. I hike in a t shirt in freezing weather but I realize I hike very warm.

Is anyone doing anything sp00ky for Halloween weekend? Just for fun. It's a great time of year and season for wandering the woods at night or doing a cemetery chase or whatever. Anyone here have the Halloween spirit?
