Outdoor classes, school, NOLS, courses
Hello /out/!

Have any of you taken any outdoor courses of any discipline? I would be really interested in taking something that would be beneficial to outings like they experience on Alone, purely out of interest and curiosity. I'm a 30+ burger so I feel like I'm kinda too old for NOLS but any experiences you guys have would be interesting.

Ran into a guy that did this, he had a lot of great things to say about it

courses are always a waste of time and money. just read a few books and head out into the nature to learn through experience. i like practical guides like "naked into the wilderness" and random non fiction about how native people lived in my area in ancient times

You don't think you would benefit from a condensed session in a group setting? Or that it's just too steep of a cost?

I always tell myself I should do classes for avvy awareness, crevasse rescue and wilderness first aid but never do because I'm shy/pathetically feminine and have no one to do it with. I will continue to hope I never need any of these things, it helps that I only go out alone and don't have anything to live for.

I lived in SLC for three years and kept meaning to take a backcountry skiing/avi class but put it off too long and moved.

enough to know they are a waste of time and money

group settings are ESPECIALLY a waste of time and money and solo training is just a cult of personality. its like religious teaching. if you have to pay for it, its probably no good..

high school is a tiny blip far in the distant past that meant nothing. referring to high school is a underage comment to make. you must be over 18 to use this forum.
