Quick FAQS
>what’s the best camera available on a “budget”?
The blackmagic pocket cinema camera 4k, or the Panasonic gh5 (can pick one up for like 500 bucks atm)
>what’s a good beginner video camera?
Anything that works, shoots at least 1080p and preferably has interchangeable lenses. Any recommendation beyond that will cause arguments so read the fucking sticky if that isn't satisfactory.
>What's a good sound solution that won't break the bank?
Zoom h1
>Can I use a zoom lens for video?
Yes
>Do I need cine lenses?
No
>Do I need 4k?
No. 1080 looks great on a cinema screen. 4k looks better.
>Can someone tell me if my video is any good?
Yes, but be prepared to receive harsh criticism. If you're going to waste 5 minutes of our time with a shitty out-of-focus montage of nothing then we'll tell you that it's crap
>Is it okay to dox myself?

Zines
How does /p/ feel about zines?

They seem fun. You print your stuff, distribute it however you want, and people look at it. They might toss it in the trash but at least you made an impression.

You can make them for pretty cheap. I made some lo-fi DIY-style ones with my visual art at home using just an inkjet printer, and I've been dropping them in random places for people to find.

Anyone ever make zines?

Scanning is the hard part. I got a cheap flatbed and thought I could save money on scanning by paying only for processing, but it isn't worth it. I would rather pay $10 for scans than fiddle for 4+ hours to get scans that I never could get to be sharp.

Is photography/the arts anti-chud?
I was looking around in my city for a public/community shared darkroom/print space as I don’t have the space to do it at home and found a place that sounds great as far as the facilities go, but the people running it and their whole mission seems to be progressive woke womyn run and focused. Not explicitly, they supposedly “welcome everyone” but like picrel just says it all. I looked around for other options and basically every artists group here is the same, the school of art, open art spaces, even the local “hacker/makerspace” seems to be a tranny daycare. Just maximum virtue signalling buzzwords and labels type of people, and it seems you can’t find just a basic “normal” non-political photography group. What’s up with that? Are we really just outliers on here? Like I’m still tempted cause it’s only 35 bucks a year for 24/7 darkroom access but I’d basically have to do maximum power level hiding at all times. Wonder if it’s worth it. How have you all found other photographers to be? Is this the nature of “creative” pursuits? Were the wokeys right, conservatives can’t into art?

Becoming "high end" professionally
Have any of you working/professional anons had any luck becoming a "high end" photographer/videographer? By which I mean, the kind of person who only works with more discerning, high-paying clients?

I run a business that does sound and video recording for classical and jazz musicians (there's some photography in there too) and whilst my skills are pretty good, I've realised that I will never make good money or work make truly great recordings until I get better quality clients.

It's not just about money, but rather the willingness and ability of these clients to work under the conditions needed to make a good product, whilst also respecting my work enough to actually cooperate.

I've realised half of the issue is just price. Doubling prices has helped get rid of the bad clients however the issue with "high-end" clients is that they are usually rich people who do not live in my shitty area and therefore don't know me. I know full well that a facebook ad will not fix this.

I haven't been here in a while so pardon me if this is a faggish question to answer, but last time I was here there was a decent number of current or former professionals.

Not to overcomplicate things for the guy that asked, but with black and white technically you can compensate variable iso on the same roll if you use a super dilute stand development, something like one to 100 rodinal or somethin...
>>4482190
If you want to mess with pushing and pulling film I would recommend trying ilford hp5+. It looks really good shot anywhere from like 12 iso all the way up to 1600 or higher. You just need to develop it correctly.

If he is going -1 it is pulling the film, but you are correct about everything else.

It would be underexposing the film, but then you can compensate for that with extended development time, which is why you get more grain and increased contrast. Most films are just fine with goi...

I was under the impression that higher ISO film is more sensitive. So wouldn't shooting 400 film at 800 ISO underexpose a 400 ISO roll?
Not questioning your judgement, just trying to understand the logic here.

i’d love to know who some of these artists are so that i can see more of their work. i would buy photobooks based on some of these. tineye is usually returning 0 results. interesting.

i don’t see any evidence of AI being used. it does not look like AI to me. but i’m also a dummy?

Hello /p/, I want to take photos like picrel but have no experience in photography and no camera, I'm willing to spend up to around €1,000 but would rather cheaper as I am not wealthy, anything in the 400-500 range is a nice amount for me. What camera/specs do I need? Any lenses? I know photography terminology as I've experience with 3dcg and they seem to use the same terms there, as well as a bit of experience in just using the pro mode of my phone camera.

Why has the world abandoned photo shoots of good looking women?
99% of anything I see now is selfies and if its a photoshoot its just to sell clothing or some super generic looking agency testshoot.
10 years ago or whatever the world was full of every good looking girl doing multiple photoshoots just for content.
What happened?

What’s wrong is you quit looking at photography and got lazy and just looked at social media instead. Social media is worse than tabloid trash, it’s DIY tabloid trash. If all you look at is internet shit bc it’s low effort, being on your fuckin phone, then you will make shit inspired by th...

She's like a 5/10 anon. Don't get me wrong she looks fine but if that's the most beautful woman you've ever seen I wholeheartedly suggest you leave your favela.
My GF is like a 6/10, it's understandable, but in a thread about models neither belong itt.

Kind of a /fa/ question for /p/
I've been a photography enthusiast ever since I met my girlfriend of 4~ years. I shoot with her all the time and even have gotten her into and excited about the craft. Her and I regularly go on walks, and a couple nights ago and she said something that kind of shot out of left field. We were contemplating what trail we were going to hike (my neighborhood backs up to a large recreational/forest area with many choices) and we had decided upon one and to end the conversation she says, "And maybe you don't bring the big camera this time?" and we both laughed, with my laughter just coming from confusion and a little bit of shock for such a request. I cannot for the life of me figure out why she asked this. I seldom ever shoot with a tripod when going on casual walks with her and it never gets in the way of us having a good time, I take a few pictures every walk and throw it over my shoulder and keep going. I don't let my hobby ever get in the way of our time together. If anything she's asking to shoot with me more often.

That's why for the life of me I can't understand why she asked me to leave the rb67 at home. She loves shooting with me and is always asking questions to learn more about photography and film. I'm really not trying to sperg out about this, I guess im just trying to figure it out from a girl's pov. I can't help but think the reason she asked is purely aesthetic/visual, as if me hauling it around is unattractive or something. Is carrying this camera around on a semi-regular basis that strange or unfashionable? I really don't think its big enough of an issue to explicitly request I don't use it which is why im so confused.

big cameras can be kinda cringe sometimes. idk why but it probably gives her the ick for you to carry this huge, non-nonchalant thing around. get a ricoh grIII and she'll wanna marry you.
