I took my Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8
I was tempted to take my 18-135mm but it’s not as sharp
the kit zoom (18-55mm APS-C/24-70mm FF) is a journo’s hammer afaik. most of the pros I saw were carrying two cameras, the second camera equipped with a 70-200mm (50-135mm APS-C) zoom. That’s just standard professional journalist kit. If you’re at an event like this, you don’t need to worry about telephoto too much since basically everyone understands there will be a lot of cameras everywhere. The only thing I would like a second camera with a telephoto lens for is capturing candid stuff. I can’t stand when people turn and smile for the camera.

is the camera the defining technology of the modern era? that's what I ask myself every time I go to one of these events and see everyone with a camera of some kind. I can't fathom how many thousands of images and videos come out of an event like this that I'll never see. all the moments, all the perspectives, like a microcosm of humanity.
