Anyone who wants to be on the "right" side of history is motivated by vanity. They want to be remembered fondly under the assumption that future generations will agree with them. This premise is ultimately foolish when you consider the ever increasing scope of criticisms that get applied. MLK would be called a race traitor by the left for his stated beliefs if alive today (the boondocks covered this well.)
