Several high-end businesses were among the many looted and vandalized overnight following a fourth day of protests over immigration raids in Downtown Los Angeles.

Cleanup was underway following the overnight break-in and looting of the Apple Store.

“No ICE” was spray-painted on the damaged glass windows in front of the store. Inside, broken glass was seen on the ground.

Multiple jewelry stores were also hit overnight. A large mob was seen outside businesses on 6th Street and Broadway. Display boxes were left on the sidewalk.

One shop owner said he witnessed at least four attempted lootings in Los Angeles’ Jewelry District.

Meanwhile, a few blocks away on West 8th and Main Street, police were seen taking down a suspect believed to be involved in the looting of Shoe Palace. Several other suspects managed to run from the scene.

They aren't protestors.

To make it even clearer, Federal Law lists the following criteria to determine whether or not something is considered a "riot":
> A public disturbance
> Involve three or more people
> The group engages in acts of violence
> There is a clear and present danger of damage to property or injury to people

Inciting a riot is a Federal crime, so of course they have to have a legal definition of what is or is not a riot to determine if you incited one or not. This isn't a semantics game and it's not determined by whether you like the "vibes" of the term or not. This is a riot plain and simple, there are three or more people engaging in a public disturbance in which violence is being used to destroy property and cause injury to others.

There is also a legal definition of what a "protest" is. A majority of them center around how various written documents or public statements during a government assembly can be legally considered a "protest" but the only one applicable to this situation is the following:

> "A protest constitutes as an instance of civil resistance, or nonviolent resistance, when it is part of a larger systematic and peaceful nonviolent campaign aimed at achieving a specific objective by use of pressure and persuasion."

By definition a protest CAN NOT include violence. You can stand around picketing, you can engage in a sit in, you can sit someone with a sign and say you're on a hunger strike, etc. You CAN NOT however, in any circumstances, engage in violence or destruction of property. To do so is by definition NOT a protest and instead a riot.
