>>507098872 By the Early Oligocene, Whales stopped using their hind legs except for mating. Even now Whales still have internal limbs purely for balancing to mate.
>>507099021 isn't it weird that although feet was used for mating, the ones with smaller legs appear to have been more successful resulting in an evolutionary shift towards even scrawnier legs?
>>507098983 Back then the last Basilosaurs weren't particularly intelligent, more like a Wolf than a Modern Cetacean. Probably would've killed Humans had Humans been alive back then.
>>507099291 One could say they became more efficient at balance despite becoming smaller. Also Basilosaurs were finished once Odontocetes evolved biosonar and Mysticetes developed baleen, couldn't compete.
>>507099312 you cant say that. we know nothing about them, even about today water creatures we know just a little bit, and most is ignorance mixed with fear
>>507099664 Not for certain but their encephalisation quotient was much lower that much is known. Modern Whale intelligence probably didn't evolve until the Neoceti did. Basilosaurus cetoides probably was moderately aggressive hunting small Sharks. but Basilosaurus isis hunted Calves of other species for food. Not many species are specialised baby eaters even in the fossil record.

>>507099497 Deceptively so, Whales cannot point with their flippers because their neural structure hasn't developed the instinct like Primates. But they do point with their snout.

some of these prehistoric beasts are cool, apparently there were all sorts of enormous animals walking around
