Why don't modern gyms take inspiration from the ancient Greeks?
I'm talking about a place where:

> you train strength like a hoplite (weights, calisthenics, wrestling)
> you practice martial arts like pankration
> you discuss philosophy, science, and politics between sessions (like they did in the palestra)

Back then, gyms were centers for physical *and* intellectual development. Nowadays it's just:

> bro splits
> creatine talk and TikTok clips
> zero intellectual depth

I want a place where I can deadlift, choke someone out on the mat, and then debate Heraclitus while cooling down.

Was combining mind and body really a thing we just… forgot?

Those gyms were clubs and schools for the elites. A lot of disabled people can't work out much but they can study intellectual pursuits. Same thing for stupid people in reverse.

There are some government funded programs where you can learn useful skills outside of college at rec centers. But each is just for one thing you sign up for and pay a small fee. They do it between athletic programs hours and days. Everything got sub divided by specialty and interest.
